For BMW enthusiasts, 2026 marks a truly legendary milestone as the iconic BMW M3 celebrates its 40th anniversary.

To commemorate this special occasion, BMW has officially unveiled images of the BMW M3 40th Anniversary Edition. The limited-edition model features nostalgic exclusive paint finishes and is filled with thoughtful tribute details throughout. It is set to make its global debut at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show, with the official launch scheduled for the second half of 2026.

Classic Colors Return: The Soul of the E30

This 40th Anniversary Edition pays tribute to die-hard enthusiasts by offering both Sedan and Touring variants, each featuring its own iconic color.

Sedan: Finished in the legendary Laguna Seca Blue. A highly revered color among M fans, it pairs perfectly with the new high-gloss black kidney grille and smoked headlight assemblies for a striking look.

Touring: Finished in the elegant yet bold Wildberry individual paint. The standout feature is the edition-exclusive Gold 826M multi-spoke wheels paired with red M compound brake calipers — a striking "Red & Gold" combination that exudes premium performance and heritage flair.

To signify its special status, "40 JAHRE M3" commemorative badging is found on the B-pillars, interior trim, and headrests.

Performance: Unlocked Top Speed

Under the hood, the anniversary edition remains a pure-bred performance machine. Based on the current M3 Competition, it is powered by the legendary S58 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine.

Max Output: 390 kW (approx. 530 hp).

Transmission: 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with M xDrive AWD.

For this 40th Anniversary Edition, BMW has also raised the electronic speed limiter.

Sedan: Top speed increased to 290 km/h.

Touring: Top speed reaches 280 km/h.

Will It Come to Malaysia?

Official sources confirm that production for this milestone model will be extremely limited. For the Chinese market, only 40 units of the Sedan and a mere 20 units of the Touring will be available.

While BMW Malaysia has yet to announce a local debut, Malaysia remains one of the strongest global markets for M models — particularly for the M3 Touring. Enthusiasts are holding out hope that a handful of units might find their way to our shores.
