GWM Malaysia has announced a major milestone, with the first locally-assembled (CKD) Wey G9 MPV units exported to Thailand – less than a month after the model’s official CKD rollout in Malaysia.

This export marks GWM’s confidence in Malaysia’s local vehicle assembly capabilities, with the send-off ceremony witnessed by GWM Malaysia Managing Director Cui Anqi and Chief Operating Officer Roslan Abdullah.
Roslan Abdullah highlighted that the export is a testament to GWM’s growing foothold in ASEAN, and underscores Malaysia’s role as the brand’s strategic ASEAN assembly hub. He added that this move not only allows Malaysia to supply neighbouring markets but also strengthens regional supply chain integration, serving as a key step for GWM’s rapid expansion across ASEAN.
Cui Anqi complemented this, stating the CKD Wey G9 is a product of world-class engineering paired with local manufacturing expertise. He noted the export showcases GWM’s regional expansion capabilities, and is just the start of the brand’s long-term blueprint – one that will further solidify Malaysia’s position as a core hub in GWM’s ASEAN new energy vehicle (NEV) strategy.
The GWM Wey G9 is confirmed to launch in Malaysia early 2026, with the local-spec model identical to the units exported to Thailand. Powering the MPV is GWM’s all-new Hi-4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, combining a 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engine with dual motors to deliver a combined output of 442 PS and 642 Nm of torque.
Priced at below RM300,000 in Malaysia, the Wey G9 is set to compete head-on with Japanese imported MPV models in the premium segment.
