BYD has officially released teaser images of its flagship electric SUV — the third-generation Yuan PLUS (known globally as the Atto 3). The brand confirmed that this highly anticipated successor is slated for its world premiere at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show.
As one of the best-selling electric SUVs in Malaysia, any update to the Atto 3 is a major talking point for local EV enthusiasts. This next-gen overhaul promises more than just a fresh face, but also an upgrade in battery technology.

Design: A Sleeker Dragon Face
Based on the teaser images, the new model retains BYD's signature Dragon Face design language but with a sharper styling.
Front: The styling now aligns with the Song L, adopting a flatter, more aggressive profile. A prominent chrome strip integrates seamlessly into the LED headlights, creating a wider visual stance for a sportier, crossover-inspired look.
Rear: It retains the full-width LED light bar, updated with a new "wave" internal graphic for a more modern light signature.

The new model now measures 4,665 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase stretched to 2,770 mm. These revised proportions point toward a roomier interior, specifically benefiting rear-seat passengers.
The true evolution lies beneath the skin.
2nd-Gen Blade Battery: Boasting higher energy density and enhanced safety standards.
Advanced Flash Charging: New tech designed to significantly slash charging times and alleviate range anxiety.
e-Platform 4.0: This next-gen architecture is expected to feature a highly integrated chassis, delivering superior handling and improved overall efficiency.

In a major departure from the current model's FWD layout, the next-gen Atto 3 is expected to transition to a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) setup, promising more dynamic handling.
High Output: 240 kW maximum power.
Standard Output: 200 kW maximum power.
Battery Options: Two battery capacities will be available — 57.545 kWh and 68.547 kWh — delivering CLTC ranges of 540 km and 630 km, respectively.

In Malaysia, the BYD Atto 3 has long served as a benchmark for the RM150,000 price bracket. While these teasers specifically target the Chinese-market "Yuan PLUS", BYD's global strategy suggests this new model is highly likely to reach our shores by late this year or early 2027.
If the third-generation model truly arrives with an RWD setup and the new Flash Charge technology, it will elevate the Atto 3's competitiveness to a whole new level. For those currently in the market for an EV, the question remains: is the promise of the 2nd-Gen Blade Battery worth the wait?
