At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, BYD officially unveiled the highly anticipated 3rd Generation Yuan PLUS. As the Chinese counterpart to the global bestseller Atto 3, this new model marks a significant departure from its predecessor, featuring a shift to a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and larger dimensions.

Design: Refined "Dragon Face" Aesthetics

The 3rd Gen Yuan PLUS evolves the iconic "Dragon Face" design language with a focus on futuristic minimalism.

Front Profile: The signature silver chrome trim integrates seamlessly into the sharp LED headlamps, widening the car's visual stance.

Streamlined Details: The side profile adopts smoother character lines and semi-hidden door handles. At the rear, "wave-effect" continuous taillights take center stage, while the relocated license plate holder (now on the bumper) creates a cleaner tailgate aesthetic.

Dimensions: Enhanced Cabin Volume

Engineered for family-centric practicality, the new Yuan PLUS has grown across all metrics.

Dimensions: 4,665 mm (L) x 1,895 mm (W) x 1,675 mm (H).

Wheelbase: Now at 2,770 mm — a 50 mm increase over the current model. Combined with a total body length increase of 210 mm, the new model offers a significant upgrade in rear legroom and cargo capacity.

Drivetrain & Battery: 2nd Gen Blade Battery & Flash Charging

The biggest highlight lies in the mechanical overhaul, transitioning the model to a rear-motor configuration for improved driving dynamics.

Performance: Available in two output variants — 200 kW and 240 kW

Battery: Equipped with BYD's 2nd-gen Blade Battery in 57.5 kWh and 68.5 kWh capacities, delivering a CLTC range of 540 km and 630 km, respectively.

Charging: Supports BYD Flash Charging, a critical addition to reduce charging times and enhance long-distance touring capability.

Conclusion

While the BYD Atto 3 currently sold in Malaysia remains a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) model, the debut of this 3rd-gen version provides a clear blueprint for the next-gen local model.

With superior range, increased cabin space, and the shift to a more sophisticated RWD architecture, the new Yuan PLUS is well-positioned to defend its title as one of the most competitive electric SUVs in the Malaysian market.
