Beyond Conversions: Geely Unveils Native New Energy Off-Road Architecture at Auto China 2026

Taking center stage at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show (Auto China 2026), Geely Auto debuts its first-ever Native New Energy Off-Road Architecture. Departing from common "ICE-to-EV" conversions, this platform is a ground-up development centered on the "Three-Electric" (Battery, Motor, Control) system. Empowered by Geely's Full-Stack AI, it aims to resolve traditional off-roader pain points: safety, intelligence, and ride comfort.

The Geely Galaxy Starship 700, the new flagship of the Galaxy series, will be the first production model to feature this architecture.

Beyond Conversions: Optimized Packaging and Equilibrium

Geely emphasizes that new energy off-roading requires more than just swapping powertrains. This architecture reconstructs the vehicle layout from the chassis up.

Spatial Efficiency: The battery pack is laid flat within the chassis and integrated into a unibody frame. This minimizes vertical cabin intrusion while the compact transverse hybrid unit maximizes passenger and cargo volume.

Golden Weight Distribution: Thanks to the native layout, the vehicle achieves a 50:50 front-to-rear axle load ratio — a rarity for rugged off-roaders — ensuring superior grip and predictable handling on unstable terrain.

Endurance: The architecture accommodates high-density battery packs and larger fuel tanks, with Geely claiming class-leading total range capabilities.

Hardcore Safety: Recessed Battery & Triple Isolation

To mitigate chassis impacts during extreme off-roading, Geely introduced a reinforced protective suite.

Physical Armor: The battery is recessed within the chassis with a ground clearance exceeding 300 mm. It features six-layer structural protection and a bulletproof-coated skid plate.

Integrated Reinforcement: By embedding the battery within the integrated frame, Geely maximizes lateral impact protection.

Thermal & Fire Isolation: A specialized "Oil-Electric-Gas" triple-separation design ensures these systems are isolated from one another and kept away from primary impact zones to eliminate fire hazards.

Performance Prowess: 1,000 hp & AI-Powered Recovery

The architecture boasts staggering performance specifications.

Tri-Motor Architecture: Utilizing a high-power P3 front motor and dual P4 independent rear-wheel motors, the total system output exceeds 1,000 hp, enabling 0-100 km/h sprints in the 4-second range.

AI Torque Vectoring: The AI All-Terrain System enables real-time torque distribution. The dual motors can be electronically locked to simulate traditional differential locks for swift recovery in complex terrains.

Active Suspension: Equipped with active hydraulic suspension, the system allows independent adjustment of wheel height and damping, supporting advanced maneuvers like "tank jumps" and one-click AI self-recovery.

Solving the Thermal Bottleneck

To address motor overheating during sustained low-speed crawling, Geely implemented an off-road-specific thermal management system. The rear motors utilize a magnesium alloy drive system (improving cooling efficiency by 50%), supported by dual active cooling circuits and a 3 kW high-pressure fan.

Editor's Take: The Malaysian Impact

While currently exclusive to the high-end Galaxy series, Geely's deep technical synergy with Proton means this technology could eventually trickle down to our local market. With the surge of interest in "lifestyle" and "rugged" SUVs (such as the GWM Tank and Jaecoo series), this architecture — boasting a 40,000 N·m/deg torsional stiffness — provides a solid foundation for future premium SUVs that may eventually reach Malaysian shores.
