Kuala Lumpur, 11 February 2026 – GWM Malaysia today announced that the newly launched WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV has secured over 800 bookings within its first week, reflecting strong early demand for Malaysia’s first locally assembled luxury New Energy MPV and growing confidence in intelligent hybrid mobility.

The milestone follows the vehicle’s official launch on 29 January 2026 at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur, officiated by Yang Berhormat Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). The WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV represents a strategic step in positioning Malaysia as a regional production and export hub for higher-value New Energy vehicles within ASEAN.

During his keynote address at the launch, Yang Berhormat Tuan Sim Tze Tzin emphasised the strategic importance of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV to Malaysia’s automotive future, “The introduction of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is a bold step forward by GWM, as it looks to make first class mobility more accessible. Prioritising comfort, safety, and advanced mobility for Malaysian families, GWM’s aspirations align perfectly with our national goal of inclusive and balanced economic growth.”

He also highlighted the strategic value of local assembly (CKD), noting Malaysia’s mature ecosystem of over 72 specialised vendors and a highly skilled technical workforce that GWM can leverage from.

“Local assembly allows GWM to capitalise on Malaysia’s Free Trade Agreements, paving the way for duty-free exports within the region. This initiative supports the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030) by increasing economic complexity, strengthening domestic vendor participation, and enhancing technological depth through meaningful technology transfer.”

He further encouraged GWM to consider deeper industrial ownership in Malaysia to cement the nation’s role as a sustainable export hub for right-hand-drive markets, “We want to see GWM grow from a participant in our market to a cornerstone of our export-oriented ecosystem.”

“We are encouraged by the strong response from Malaysian customers. For us, the bookings are more than a number, they show that customers understand what the WEY G9 stands for,” said Mr. Cui Anqi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia. “This vehicle represents our vision of intelligent luxury mobility, combining advanced technology with real comfort. The early response tells us Malaysians are ready to move into a new era of New Energy mobility.”

Mr. Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, also added, “This milestone reflects not only strong consumer demand, but also the capability of Malaysia’s local assembly ecosystem. By leveraging our skilled workforce and vendor network, we are proving that Malaysia can deliver global standards while building long-term value for the domestic industry.”

Designed around the philosophy of First Class for All, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV blends hybrid performance, efficiency, safety and high-end comfort in a locally assembled package. Securing over 800 bookings within its first week reflects the vehicles’ appeal as a luxury MPV designed for both families and professionals, robust market acceptance and reinforces GWM’s long-term commitment to Malaysia as a key pillar of its ASEAN New Energy strategy.

Powered by GWM’s Hi4 intelligent hybrid system, the WEY G9 delivers up to 170 km of pure electric driving and a total range exceeding 1,000 km, combining long-distance capability with quiet daily efficiency. The model is priced at RM269,800, positioning it competitively within Malaysia’s luxury MPV segment.
