Global NEV giant BYD has released its sales performance for April 2026. Despite intensifying competition, the company maintained strong momentum, delivering a total of 321,123 vehicles for the month, of which 314,100 units were passenger vehicles.

Record Overseas Performance

For Malaysian consumers, the most significant highlight is BYD's impressive overseas growth. In April, BYD achieved a record 134,542 units in international sales (passenger vehicles and pickups), accounting for over 40% of its total monthly volume. This marks another strong step in BYD's global expansion strategy.

In Malaysia, BYD's current portfolio includes popular models such as the Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal. With the recent launches of the Sealion 7 and the more affordable Atto 2, the brand's market presence and share in Malaysia are expected to grow further.

Multi-Brand Matrix Delivers Diversified Growth

BYD's performance continues to be supported by its multi-brand strategy.

  • Dynasty & Ocean Series: The core volume drivers, recording 273,448 units in April.
  • Fang Cheng Bao: The rugged off-road sub-brand sold 29,138 units.
  • Denza: The premium luxury brand delivered 11,250 units.
  • Yangwang: The ultra-luxury flagship brand contributed 264 units.

Cumulative Sales Milestone

BYD's total NEV sales have now officially surpassed the 16.1 million mark. For the first four months of 2026, the company has already sold 1,021,586 vehicles globally.

Editor's Take

BYD's robust overseas growth is helping the company counterbalance the intense price competition in its home market. For Malaysian owners and potential buyers, this strong global momentum is a positive sign — it points to improved long-term parts availability, stronger after-sales support, and continued investment in new technologies.
