FAW Bestune Bestune T99

2026-09-19 13:10:00

The Bestune T99 is a front-wheel-drive (FWD) mid-size 5-seater SUV launched by FAW Bestune. Serving as the flagship offering in FAW Bestune's T-series SUV line-up, the model was spearheaded in development by China FAW Group (FAW). Boasting a commanding stance and an imposing road presence, it successfully elevated the brand's image in its domestic market before shifting its focus overseas, emerging as a sought-after, value-for-money Chinese large 5-seater SUV across international markets such as the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Model Overview

The Bestune T99 is positioned as an urban flagship mid-size SUV. Within the Bestune product hierarchy, the model was historically touted as the "Holographic Intelligent Large 5-Seater Flagship." Its core selling point is the complete omission of a third row to maximise legroom and shoulder room in the second row, delivering an "executive-class 5-seater cabin." It also retains the T-series' signature 3D holographic virtual assistant, paired with a cost-effective 2.0T engine and Aisin/Shengrui automatic transmission setup from the pure ICE era. The model's official retail pricing was pegged between RM134,900 and RM186,900, aimed squarely at pragmatic families who demand road presence, refuse to compromise on cabin space typical of compact SUVs, and have no strict requirement for 7 seats.

Development History

The origins of the Bestune T99 date back to the Bestune T2 Concept showcased at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. In November of that year, the production-spec Bestune T99 officially debuted in China, powered by FAW's in-house developed 2.0T powertrain. To reinforce its reliability credentials, an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic variant was introduced in June 2020, complementing the earlier Shengrui 8-speed automatic to form a dual-transmission line-up.

In December 2022, the Bestune T99 received a major mid-lifecycle facelift, gaining a borderless "Light and Shadow Philosophy" front grille, full-width LED taillights, and the brand's updated, horizontally flattened "Window of the World" emblem. Moving into the 2025–2026 period, amidst China's rapid transition towards new energy vehicles (NEVs, specifically PHEVs and BEVs), FAW gradually scaled back domestic production and marketing resources for the T99. Instead, FAW seamlessly pivoted the model overseas via its global Bestune export network. Today, the 2025 and 2026 Bestune T99 models serve as staple ICE flagships across Chinese brand dealerships in the Middle East, Central Asia, and South America.

Market Performance

The Bestune T99 reflects a classic "quiet at home, thriving abroad" market trajectory. In China's fiercely contested mid-size SUV segment, intense competition from plug-in hybrid (PHEV) 5-seater rivals gradually pushed the ICE-powered T99 to the fringes in its later lifecycle. Internationally, however, the SUV carved out a strong niche through astute cross-segment positioning. In petrol-dominated markets like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the Bestune T99 has proven popular by offering the road presence and generous proportions of a luxury mid-to-large SUV at a price point comparable to foreign-brand compact SUVs. Supported by standard 5-year or 150,000 km manufacturer warranties and proven mechanical resilience on unpaved roads and under harsh, dusty climates, its pure petrol powertrain has earned proven durability over time.

Core Technology

In terms of exterior dimensions, the Bestune T99 sports an upright, rugged, and boxy silhouette, measuring 4,800 mm in length, 1,915 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a generous 2,870 mm wheelbase. This long wheelbase, dedicated purely to a 5-seater cabin, affords a cavernous standard boot space of around 500 litres, which expands substantially when the 60:40 split-folding rear seats are laid flat.

Powertrain and driveline specifications:

Powertrain: The line-up is powered across the board by China FAW's proprietary 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (engine code CA4GC20TD-32). Featuring high-thermal-efficiency direct injection, the unit churns out a maximum power output of 165 kW (around 224 PS / 221 hp in export specification) and a peak torque of 340 Nm.

Transmission and Fuel Economy: Power is routed via either an Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission (6AT) or a Shengrui 8-speed automatic transmission (8AT). Top speed is rated at 210 km/h, while combined fuel consumption is claimed at between 7.0 L and 7.9 L per 100 km, supported by a 60-litre fuel tank.

Chassis: The vehicle rides on a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout, suspended by front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension setup, calibrated to deliver composed handling and pliant ride comfort tailored for long-distance cruising.

Inside, the tech-laden cockpit is highlighted by a triple-screen layout comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and an auxiliary 7-inch lower LCD climate control touchscreen. Export versions natively support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. On the safety front, the T99 features a high-strength steel cage body structure alongside a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite, incorporating a 360-degree surround-view camera, Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).

Future Plans

In line with FAW Bestune's global expansion roadmap, hardware development for the T99's ICE platform has transitioned into its mature lifecycle maintenance stage. Moving forward, strategic priorities focus on regular multilingual infotainment updates and regional homologation fine-tuning. FAW Bestune plans to optimise voice control and localised navigation mapping via OTA updates and market-specific customisations to suit user habits in key export markets like the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and South America. Furthermore, to comply with stricter emissions standards overseas, engineering teams are continually refining exhaust aftertreatment and ECU mapping to ensure this flagship SUV maintains lasting market competitiveness abroad.
