Model Overview

The JAC E10X (marketed as the Sehol E10X) is an all-electric micro car (A00-segment) introduced in 2021 by JAC Motors under its Sehol marque. Officially launched on 28 March 2021, the EV was priced between RM39,900 and RM75,900 post-subsidy. As the debut model rolled out under the JAC-Volkswagen joint venture backdrop, the Sehol E10X was tasked with elevating the brand's profile, going head-to-head against the Wuling Hongguang MINI EV of the era. A total of seven variants were offered across three NEDC range options—150 km, 200 km, and 302 km—to cater to diverse urban commuter needs. In terms of dimensions, the JAC E10X measures 3,650 mm in length, 1,670 mm in width, and 1,540 mm in height, with a 2,390 mm wheelbase. While it initially drew considerable attention courtesy of its pocket-friendly pricing and generous equipment list, sales momentum and brand visibility waned amid fierce market rivalry; subsequently, a zero-star crash rating from Latin NCAP dealt a severe blow to its market credibility.

Design Language

Styling-wise, the JAC E10X builds upon the foundation of the JAC iEV6 while injecting a sportier, more youth-centric aesthetic. Up front, it sports a clean, closed-off fascia that ditches the conventional grille, complemented by a full-width light strip across the centre to accentuate its visual stance. Down the flanks, a two-tone paint scheme and a rising character line add a touch of dynamism, paired with 14-inch four-leaf clover-style alloy wheels for an energetic profile. The rear bumper echoes the front apron's design, lending the overall styling a cohesive look. Buyers can choose from up to 10 trendy exterior colours tailored to younger buyers seeking personal expression.

Step inside, and the JAC E10X adopts a youthful, uncluttered cabin layout. The dashboard is finished predominantly in black, enlivened by vibrant body-coloured trim accents. Taking centre stage is a floating digital instrument cluster, complemented by either a 10.25-inch or a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display depending on the variant. A sporty three-spoke flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel adds to the driver-focused ambiance. Seating configurations include four-seater and five-seater options, featuring integrated front sports seats upholstered in fabric.

Powertrain Performance

Under the skin, the JAC E10X is driven by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, available in two outputs based on battery range. The 150 km and 200 km variants feature a motor producing 30 kW and 95 Nm of torque, while the 302 km range version steps up to 45 kW and 150 Nm, making it better suited for intercity commutes. Battery-wise, the entire lineup comes standard with safer lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells supplied by Gotion High-tech. Available in 15 kWh, 19.7 kWh, and 30.2 kWh capacities, these deliver NEDC-rated ranges of 150 km, 200 km, and 302 km respectively. In addition, the three 302 km variants support DC fast charging, juicing the battery from 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in 30 to 42 minutes, whereas the other four variants rely solely on AC charging, taking roughly 6 to 8 hours. First-hand owners also enjoy a lifetime, unlimited-mileage battery warranty.

Chassis and Handling

For its underpinnings, the JAC E10X rides on a front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension setup—a standard arrangement for city cars in this class. It is front-wheel drive (FWD) and features an electric power steering (EPS) system calibrated for effortless, lightweight steering during low-speed urban manoeuvres. Braking is handled by front ventilated discs and rear drums, typical of vehicles in this segment.

Drivers can toggle between three drive modes: Standard, Eco, and Long-range. Standard mode delivers the sharpest throttle response with a top speed of 102 km/h; Eco and Long-range modes throttle back motor output and air-conditioning draw, with Long-range mode capping the top speed at 60 km/h to squeeze out maximum range. Furthermore, regenerative braking offers three selectable levels—High, Standard, and Low—enabling drivers to tailor deceleration based on road conditions and driving habits.

Cabin and Features

In terms of in-cabin tech, a digital instrument cluster comes standard across the board, with two infotainment display sizes on offer: most trims feature a 10.25-inch unit, while the top-of-the-range Huaxianzi Sunflower edition upgrades to a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen. The infotainment setup supports Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone screen mirroring, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates; higher-spec variants add built-in navigation, connected services, and voice command functionality, elevating the digital experience above typical micro car standards.

On the comfort and convenience front, manual air conditioning and a PM2.5 cabin air filter come standard, while higher-grade variants gain automatic climate control. Other noteworthy amenities include keyless entry with push-start button, an electronic parking brake (EPB) with Auto Hold, remote engine start, front wireless smartphone charging, and cruise control—with features like the wireless charging pad being rare finds in this segment.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

On the passive safety front, the JAC E10X comes standard with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a driver’s airbag, with upper variants adding a front passenger airbag. Offering a driver airbag as standard across the range gave it a distinct edge over rivals like the early Wuling Hongguang MINI EV. Active safety aids include Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera, taking the stress out of daily parking manoeuvres.

For driver assistance, the range-topping Huaxianzi variant is fitted with a 360-degree surround-view camera, making parking in tight urban spots a breeze. However, it is worth noting that the entire range lacks Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), or Lane Keeping Assist.

Regarding crash safety credentials, Latin NCAP crash-tested the JAC E10X in December 2022, where it scored a dismal 0.00% for adult occupant protection, 6.34% for child occupant protection, and 20.25% for vulnerable road user (pedestrian) protection, culminating in a zero-star rating. The test report highlighted severe structural compromise, with the A-pillar buckling during the 64 km/h 40% frontal offset crash, while the high-voltage electrical system failed to cut off post-impact, presenting a grave safety hazard. This outcome dealt a significant blow to the EV's global reputation.

Market Performance and Evaluation

At launch, the JAC E10X struck a chord with practical-minded urban families thanks to its sub-RM40,000 entry price, versatile five-door four/five-seater layout, and standard airbags. However, sales momentum proved short-lived. By 2025, deliveries had tapered off substantially; for instance, the Sehol E10X Huaxianzi registered just 208 units in September 2025, marking a steep 70.5% year-on-year plunge. Industry observers attribute this slump to hyper-competitive market dynamics in the EV space, where a flurry of competent rivals emerged in the same price bracket, alongside Sehol’s limited brand recall, which eroded the E10X’s early competitive edge in the city runabout segment.

Owner feedback remains generally positive regarding its funky exterior styling, efficient cabin packaging, and respectable equipment levels (such as keyless push-start and the large touchscreen). On the flip side, lacklustre suspension damping, noticeable floatiness at highway cruising speeds, and the fallout from its zero-star Latin NCAP crash rating severely dented its overall market standing. All in all, while the JAC E10X makes a compelling case on paper as an affordable, practical urban runabout with decent kit, its shortcomings in crash safety, brand prestige, and overall product longevity ultimately hindered it from mounting a sustained challenge against segment rivals such as the Leapmotor T03, Chery Little Ant, and Wuling Hongguang MINI EV.
