2026-09-26 23:00:26

The JAC Refine T8 (marketed globally as the JAC T8 / T8 Pro) serves as JAC MOTORS' core strategic workhorse-cum-passenger offering in the pick-up truck segment. Built on JAC's eighth-generation international mid-size pick-up platform, the T8 seamlessly blends the rugged load-lugging capability of a commercial workhorse with the digital sophistication and comfort of a passenger vehicle. In its domestic market, the range primarily targets the upper-tier commercial and heavy-duty outdoor engineering sectors priced between RM80,000 and RM130,000. Serving as JAC MOTORS' export spearhead, it is regularly shipped across Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and European ports (such as Italy under the DR Automobiles badge and Switzerland) in both right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) configurations, cementing a solid value proposition for high-rigidity 4x4 Chinese pick-up trucks.

Model Overview

The core strength of the JAC T8 lies in its versatile underpinnings and high-efficiency multi-powertrain setup. Going head-to-head against formidable rivals such as the GWM Poer, JMC Yuhu 7, and Zhengzhou Nissan Rich, the T8 comprehensively covers infrastructure projects, long-haul logistics, and lifestyle off-road commuting via versatile cargo bed configurations comprising standard double-cab and extended long-wheelbase double-cab options.

Underpinned by a high-rigidity ladder-frame chassis, the line-up's key highlights include the standard-fit JAC Green JET 2.0CTI high-output turbodiesel powerplant, BorgWarner electronic part-time 4WD system, and an Eaton rear differential lock across the board. Through successive iterations like the Night Hawk Edition, Jinqing Edition, and the tech-laden T8 Pro variant, JAC has successfully introduced Level 2 active safety assists, a premium leather-wrapped digital T-shaped cockpit, and passenger-car-grade ride refinement to the budget workhorse segment, cementing its standing among top-tier Chinese pick-up manufacturers.

Development History

The evolution of the JAC T8 line-up showcases the comprehensive transition of Chinese pick-up trucks from basic agrarian hauliers into globalised multi-purpose lifestyle pick-up trucks:

Pioneering Premium Comfort in Pick-ups (2018–2020): Launched in 2018 as a defining milestone in JAC's upmarket push, the Refine T8 debuted with a bold hexagonal chrome grille inspired by Roman shield aesthetics. It was among the first in its class to feature a 2.0CTI VGT turbodiesel engine, taking both local and export markets by storm with its rugged exterior styling and passenger-car-like interior appointments.

Digital Transformation with T8 Pro and Global Export Breakthrough (2021–2024): As the line-up matured, the standalone T8 Pro variant was introduced, sporting a redesigned cabin dominated by a 10.4-inch portrait floating touchscreen and J-Link 3.0 telematics. Concurrently, overseas expansion surged with high-volume deliveries across Saudi Arabia, Chile, and South Africa, alongside rebadged local assembly and distribution via DR Automobiles in Italy, earning a stellar reputation abroad for strong residual value.

2026 Jinqing Edition and Safety Overhaul (Latest Generation): Moving into the brand's latest product cycle to comply with updated body-on-frame vehicle standards, the 2026 JAC T8 / T8 Pro line-up (including the Jinqing Edition) entered mainstream production. Retaining its authentic off-road ladder chassis, the latest model features fully optimised China 6b thermal efficiency, introduces an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold to wider trims, and standardises the advanced Bosch ESP 9.3 stability suite, firmly locking in its competitive edge in the dual-purpose commercial-passenger arena.

Market Performance

The JAC T8 family commands a massive domestic and international customer base, consistently ranking among China's top pick-up exports and segment leaders. It precisely addresses the non-negotiable demands of mining and construction operators, wholesale merchants, cross-border logistics fleets, and developing export markets for heavy payload capacity, rough-road durability, and all-weather reliability. With an exceptionally low fault rate per 10,000 km, robust 4x4 recovery capabilities, and frugal diesel running costs, the T8 continues to enjoy high residual value and strong liquidity in the used commercial vehicle market.

Core Technology

In terms of exterior dimensions, the JAC T8 exhibits an imposing and highly capable mid-size pick-up stance. The line-up offers two wheelbase options: standard double-cab (standard bed) and long-wheelbase double-cab (extended bed). Taking the standard 4x4 variant as an example:

Standard Double-Cab: Measures 5,325 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,830 mm in height, riding on a 3,090 mm wheelbase.

Long-Wheelbase Double-Cab: Overall length extends to 5,645 mm with a stretched 3,380 mm wheelbase, accommodating a massive 1,810 mm long flat-floor cargo deck that easily handles a payload rated in excess of 900 kg.

Off-Road and Capability Parameters

Thanks to its high-riding suspension setup, the T8 boasts a generous minimum ground clearance of 220 mm. It delivers an approach angle of 30.9°, a departure angle of 23.3°, and a maximum water-wading depth of up to 1.2 metres, giving it true go-anywhere all-terrain capability.

Key powertrain, chassis, and active safety specifications of the latest model include:

JAC 2.0CTI Powertrain Line-up (Turbodiesel / Turbo Petrol):

2.0CTI Turbodiesel (Engine Code: 4DB2-1D1 / 2E): Jointly engineered with Germany's FEV, featuring a Delphi high-pressure common-rail direct injection system and a Honeywell variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT). It produces 102 kW–110 kW (139 PS–150 PS) and a healthy 320 Nm to 360 Nm of torque across a low 1,600–2,600 rpm band. It provides effortless pulling power for laden hill climbs and heavy towing, returning a frugal combined fuel consumption of around 7.8 L/100 km.

2.0T+ Turbo Petrol: Generates 140 kW (190 PS) and 290 Nm of torque, catering to lifestyle commuting in extreme cold or hot climates and specific export markets where petrol power is preferred.

Rugged Drivetrain & 4x4 Running Gear: The range is mated to a tried-and-tested 6-speed manual transmission (6MT). High-spec variants feature a BorgWarner electronic shift-on-the-fly part-time 4WD system (with 2H/4H/4L rotary selector) paired with a factory-fitted Eaton mechanical rear differential lock, ensuring genuine hardcore off-road obstacle clearance and recovery capabilities.

T-Shaped Passenger Cockpit & Smart Connectivity (T8 Pro):

Digital Cockpit Upgrades: The cabin completely eliminates the utilitarian feel of old-school workhorses, adopting extensive soft-touch leatherette trimmings throughout. A leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel and cruise control come standard, while the range-topping T8 Pro gains a prominent 10.4-inch portrait floating touchscreen infotainment display.

Smartphone & Telematics Integration: Features native support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and screen mirroring. It also supports mobile app remote telematics, Bluetooth digital key access, and dual-mode real-time GPS navigation.

Heavy-Duty 9-Crossmember Ladder Frame & Bosch Active Safety:

Proprietary 9-Crossmember Chassis: Derived from JAC's proven eighth-generation high-strength platform, the underpinnings combine a 'birdcage' safety cell with a 9-crossmember ladder-frame chassis using over 43% high-strength steel, meeting ECE R20 cabin impact safety standards. Suspension comprises an ideal load-lugging setup: front independent double-wishbones with coil springs and a heavy-duty rigid rear axle with reinforced multi-leaf springs.

Comprehensive Active Safety Suite: The entire line-up is fitted with four-wheel disc brakes and Bosch ESP 9.3 Electronic Stability Programme. Available driver assistance features include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), and an HD 360-degree AR surround-view monitor with transparent underfloor view, effectively mitigating blind spots and handling risks under heavy payloads.

Future Plans

In response to the global mid-size pick-up segment's shift towards electrification and smart connectivity, the future roadmap for the JAC Refine T8 (JAC T8) focuses on rolling out the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission (8AT) across global export variants, further optimising the thermal management of the factory 67.2 kWh pure-electric variant (i3-T330), and deepening RHD market penetration across key Asia-Pacific 4x4 strongholds. JAC MOTORS will continue leveraging the T8's robust payload structural integrity and go-anywhere off-road credentials to cement the model's status as a quintessential Chinese offering in the global lifestyle-utility pick-up arena.
