The Porsche Taycan is the first all-electric production sports car under the Porsche brand, positioned as an executive luxury pure electric saloon. In 2015, Porsche unveiled the Mission E concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show, officially heralding its venture into the pure electric vehicle arena. In 2019, the production-spec Taycan made its global debut, establishing itself as the benchmark for traditional luxury marques' electrification courtesy of its 800V high-voltage architecture, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and exceptional track performance. Currently, the Taycan on sale in the domestic market is the 2026 model, brought in as a fully imported (CBU) unit by Porsche (Import). On 15 October 2025, the 2026 Taycan was officially launched. The updated lineup offers a total of 7 variants, spanning two body styles: the saloon and the Cross Turismo shooting brake. The official retail price ranges from RM918,000 to RM1,568,000. As an annual model year update, the 2026 model mainly focuses on optimising standard equipment and optional package pricing.

Design Language
The 2026 Taycan retains the athletic design language introduced in its mid-cycle facelift. The front fascia adopts a low-slung, wide-body stance, with the signature four-point LED matrix headlights upgraded to HD matrix beam units on higher-end variants. Sharply contoured front wings emphasise the sleek and wide silhouette, while the dynamic roofline slopes gracefully towards the rear in a fastback profile—this classic styling cue, known as the "Flyline" , represented the most formidable design challenge on the Taycan. Given that pure EV platforms require substantial underfloor clearance to house the battery pack, vehicle bodies typically sit higher; however, Porsche ingeniously engineered a low-slung sports car profile. In terms of exterior dimensions, the saloon variant measures 4968mm long, 1998mm wide, and 1381mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2900mm; the Cross Turismo shooting brake measures 4974mm in length, 1967mm in width, and 1412mm in height, riding on a 2904mm wheelbase. The vehicle boasts an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.22 Cd. Wheel sizes range from 19-inch to 21-inch across various bespoke designs. Inside, the Taycan introduces a completely leather-free eco-friendly interior option for the first time, utilising innovative recycled upholstery for the seats. Generous applications of Race-Tex microfibre trim throughout the cabin further reinforce its track-bred persona.
Powertrain & Performance
The 2026 Taycan is offered in both rear-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations, providing a broad power spectrum tailored for everything from daily commutes to spirited track sessions. The base Taycan features a single rear-mounted electric motor delivering a maximum output of 408 PS with Launch Control overboost, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.8 seconds; paired with an 89 kWh battery pack, it delivers a CLTC-rated range of 604 km. The Taycan 4 gets a dual-motor setup generating 517 PS, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds; equipped with a 105 kWh battery, it achieves a CLTC range of 676 km. The Taycan GTS pumps out a combined 700 PS from its dual motors, hitting 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds with a cruising range of 662 km. The range-topping Taycan Turbo churns out a massive 884 PS, demolishing the 0-100 km/h dash in a mere 2.7 seconds while returning a CLTC range of 666 km. On the shooting brake front, the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo delivers 435 PS with a 0-100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds, whereas the Turbo Cross Turismo produces 884 PS and clocks the century sprint in 2.8 seconds. The entire range rides on an 800V high-voltage DC fast-charging architecture, taking only 18 minutes to juice up from 10% to 80% state of charge via a 320 kW ultra-fast charger.
Chassis & Handling
Under the skin, the Taycan employs a sophisticated front double wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension setup. Adaptive air suspension integrated with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) comes as standard across the range . The standard air suspension features automatic ride-height levelling, lowering the body by up to 22 mm at higher cruising speeds depending on the selected drive mode to minimise aerodynamic drag and enhance high-speed stability. Drive modes comprise four selectable presets: Range, Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus. Higher trims can be specified with the cutting-edge Porsche Active Ride active suspension system, which actively distributes wheel loads during high-g cornering and dynamic driving manoeuvres. The steering is razor-sharp and communicative, complemented by a chassis tune that strikes a fine balance between pliant ride comfort and track-ready body control. Furthermore, the Taycan features the Porsche Electric Sport Sound, enriching the EV driving sensation through an evocative acoustic profile.
Cockpit & Features
The Taycan's cabin is sculpted around the driver-centric "Porsche Driver Experience" architecture. Spanning horizontally across the dashboard is an advanced triple-screen interactive interface consisting of a 16.8-inch curved digital instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated lower climate control display. Powered by the Porsche Connect operating system, it supports natural voice control (covering multimedia, navigation, telephony, and air conditioning) alongside seamless over-the-air (OTA) software updates. New for the 2026 model year are high-output USB fast-charging ports with power-sharing capability. Entry-level variants feature a BOSE surround sound system and the Sport Chrono Package as standard, while top-tier variants are treated to an audiophile-grade Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System. The 2026 Taycan and Taycan GTS also gain Dolby Atmos immersive audio processing over the 2025 iteration. Concurrently, optional equipment pricing has been substantially recalibrated; for instance, the premium Burmester sound system option has been revised downwards from RM42,600 to RM34,800.
Safety & Driver Assistance
The Taycan comes standard with high-definition matrix LED headlights boasting a beam range exceeding 600 metres, complete with non-dazzling adaptive high beam masking for oncoming traffic. In terms of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the vehicle is equipped with the Porsche InnoDrive adaptive cruise control suite, incorporating predictive regenerative braking and automated park assist. The comprehensive driver assistance package includes Lane Change Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Centring Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, and Navigation-Assisted Pilot, among other active safety systems. Furthermore, the car is equipped with a 3D surround-view parking camera system and blind spot view monitoring. For stopping power, the Taycan relies on high-performance braking hardware, with track-focused carbon ceramic brake discs (PCCB) available on higher trims. A tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a comprehensive multi-airbag safety network are fitted as standard across the board.
Market Performance & Verdict
Since making its global entrance in 2019, the Taycan has carved out an enviable track record in the global luxury EV market. In 2023, global deliveries of the nameplate hit an all-time high of 40,600 units. However, squeezed by mounting competition in the global EV sphere and macroeconomic headwinds, Taycan sales have since experienced a cooldown—registering 20,800 units globally in 2024 before tapering off to 16,300 units in 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, global Taycan deliveries stood at 3,420 units, reflecting a 19% year-on-year drop. In the US market, sales slid progressively from a 2023 peak of 7,570 units down to 4,142 units in 2025. In the Chinese market, Porsche delivered 7,519 vehicles in Q1 2026, down 21% year-on-year. Prompted by the prolonged sales contraction, Porsche confirmed in 2026 the axing of both the Taycan Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo estate derivatives, realigning its operational focus towards the saloon variant and the all-electric Macan. As the pioneering torchbearer of Porsche's electric era, the Taycan has redefined the luxury EV sports car benchmark with its 800V architecture, breathtaking 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds capability, and pure Porsche driving dynamics. In spite of prevailing market headwinds, the Taycan stands as one of the most quintessential icons in the electrification journey of legacy luxury automakers.
