Just on October 19, the all-new Mitsubishi Pajero officially premiered and launched in Thailand! The starting price is 1.499 million Thai Baht, equivalent to starting from 298,000 RMB! For off-road enthusiasts worldwide, this is a return waited for five years; for Chinese car fans, the most heart-wrenching info hides in the corner of the press conference — in the official global expansion list, Mainland China is not temporarily included. This means this all-new "Mountain Cat" has no chance with the domestic market!

Speaking of the "Mountain Cat" Pajero, it should be a car that cannot be bypassed in the minds of many off-road fans. Land Cruiser, Prado, 570, Mammoth, Mountain Cat, these are synonyms for off-roading! Behind every name is a story! Born in 1982, it created the concept of "Crossover Off-roader": combining hardcore 4WD off-road capability and passenger car comfort on one vehicle. Four generations have globally cumulative sales over 3.25 million units, spanning over 170 countries and regions; Dakar Rally 12 championships, including a 7-time winning streak, let the "Mountain Cat" become a name that cannot be bypassed in the off-road circle.

But this totem also experienced a long decline: ceased production in Japan in 2019, ceased sales overseas in 2021, in October 2023 Mitsubishi announced termination of producing Mitsubishi brand cars in China, in 2025 engine joint venture business also completely withdrawn — Mitsubishi exited all joint ventures in China. Pajero once became a photo in the memories of old fans.

On September 2, 2026, Mitsubishi brought the new Pajero back to the stage: developed based on its own Triton pickup ladder frame platform, launched in Thailand, Japan, and Australia during 2026, spreading to about 100 countries and regions globally from the 2027 fiscal year. On October 19, Thailand started selling first. Using Mitsubishi's own words, this is the "New Generation Flagship Symbolizing the Mitsubishi Brand".

Regarding exterior design, the design concept of the new generation Pajero is "Grand Charisma — Composure", keywords are horizontal and planar. The body continues the horizontal baseline and boxy proportions since the first generation, but wheel arches are made more powerful, body curves more 3D, handling the "box" with a thick metal texture. The front is said to express "Inner Strength" from Japanese Kendo: T-shaped headlights are highly recognizable, grille offers horizontal slats and honeycomb versions, the former emphasizes the delicacy of Japanese craftsmanship, the latter emphasizes functional aesthetics and high strength. My feeling is that it is more solid overall, official photos also show, approach angle and departure angle are designed quite large, plus off-road exclusive thick tires, from exterior design it lays a solid off-road foundation!

Regarding side design, retains hardcore SUV classic boxy outline, roof extends nearly straight to the tail, leaving headroom for 3 rows and trunk! Doors use wavy concave/convex surfaces, upper and lower waistlines run through front and rear arches, overall side design is quite on point! Pillars fully black coated + two-tone body creates floating roof effect, window frame silver trim edging, rough and exquisite coexist! Raised wheel arches serve dual function: to make way for longer suspension travel and off-road tires, also thick protective covering for the most easily scratched parts on the side; full black pillars and trim reduce visual "error tolerance" after scratching!

Regarding rear design, still tail spoiler lifted upwards, everything is for larger off-road departure angle! Tailgate hexagonal elements pay tribute to "Spare tire mount on rear", but real spare tire moved to underside of chassis underneath — retaining visual heritage, while not blocking rear window view. Regarding body dimensions, new Pajero length 4920mm, width 1925mm, height 1910mm, wheelbase 2870mm, ground clearance 230mm, approach angle 30.4°, breakthrough angle 22.6°, departure angle 25.8° (20-inch tire specs). Front and rear weight balance optimized to 52:48, is a standard mid-to-large hardcore SUV build.

Regarding interior layout, still familiar hardcore off-road style, dashboard continues horizontal baseline since first generation, covered in soft materials, stitching technique inspired by Japanese traditional craft "Mokumekomi", touchable 3D feel and handcrafted feel. Two 14.3-inch large screens compose "Monolith" display system (some specs 12.3-inch), startup animation adds 16 instrument themes changing with light, filling up the tech feel.

The most Pajero-flavored is the digital rebirth of "Triple Gauge": altitude, temperature, compass, vehicle front/rear/left/right tilt angles, AYC control amount real-time display, off-road no need to look down to guess road conditions. Space insists on 2+3+2 seven-seat layout, 2nd row seats with 150mm long slide rail and folding mechanism, 3rd row also done with adult seating standards for head and foot space; three-zone independent AC, seat ventilation covers whole vehicle. In sound insulation Mitsubishi also worked hard, front windshield and front/rear doors use acoustic glass, official claims during high-speed driving whole car people can converse normally, honestly this point is not very concrete, basically now able to be achieved and reached. Audio is 12-speaker dual-amp system co-developed with Yamaha; infotainment supports mobile phone wireless interconnection; 3D surround monitor and "under-car perspective" automatically turn on during off-roading, help you see clear the road conditions under the car hood. Safety: FCM, forward collision warning, intersection approaching vehicle reminder, highway pilot assist MI-PILOT all included, also premieres Mitsubishi's own central airbag, whole car total 8 airbags.

Regarding power and chassis, power is a 2.4L diesel engine, single variable geometry turbo, peak torque 480N·m (some market specs 470N·m), matching newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission (with sport mode) — Diesel + 8AT, is typical global off-road market formula. Did not adopt any new energy such as 48V, motor, etc. intervention. Pure fuel brute force version that creates miracles!

Chassis continues using non-load-bearing ladder frame, what is often said in hardcore off-roading "Ladder Frame": expand high-tension steel plate usage ratio to reduce weight, while increasing frame cross-section, pull up torsional stiffness and bending stiffness. Suspension is front double-wishbone independent suspension + rear 5-link solid axle, latter is key for same price off-roaders to guarantee rear wheel contact and travel. 4WD continues and upgrades "Super Select 4WD SS4-II": 2H, 4H, 4HLc, 4LLc four modes selectable, plus S-AWC vehicle dynamic control system integrates AYC, ASTC, ABS together, provides NORMAL, ECO, GRAVEL, SNOW, MUD, SAND, ROCK total 7 driving modes.

Summary: All-new generation Pajero still retains all elements the "Mountain Cat" should have! Overall design aspect, also exists uniquely! Since October 2023, Mitsubishi announced termination of producing Mitsubishi brand cars in China, no factory, no channel, no after-sales network, Mitsubishi new Pajero wants to enter domestic, short term is not realistic! Can only introduce via parallel import! But if really introduced, will domestic consumers buy? After all now domestic hardcore off-road market is known as hundreds of flowers blooming, various domestic new energy, whether power level or exterior design and off-road capability all have very good performance! Brothers, what do you think? Enter domestic can beat Mengshi, Tank, Fang Cheng Bao them?
