To start a Honda Civic with a traditional key, first make sure the car is in Park (P) or Neutral (N). Then, stick the key into the ignition switch on the right side of the steering wheel, turn it clockwise to the "ON" position – you'll see the dashboard lights come on as it runs through its self-check. Keep turning the key clockwise to "START" until the engine fires up, then let go. If you've got the smart key model, it's even easier: just press down the brake pedal and hit the "ENGINE START/STOP" button on the center console.
Now, here's the thing about Malaysia's hot and humid weather – if you've left the car parked for a while, it's a good idea to let the engine idle for about 30 seconds when you first start it. That gives the oil time to properly lubricate all the engine parts. Also, check your battery regularly. The heat can really take a toll and shorten its life, so don't skip that.
And don't forget about your key fob battery. They usually last 2-3 years, but if you notice the remote unlock range getting shorter or the start button acting finicky, swap in a new CR2032 coin battery ASAP. Trust me, you don't want to get stuck because of a dead key battery.
