The mirror used inside a car to observe the road conditions behind is usually called the rearview mirror. It is installed in the central position above the windshield, and its main function is to allow the driver to monitor the rear traffic conditions without turning their head while driving. This design significantly improves driving safety. For technical features, some high-end models are equipped with an automatic anti-glare function, which uses photosensitive sensors to detect strong light from trailing vehicles and automatically adjusts the mirror's reflectivity. Complementing the interior rearview mirror are the side mirrors, which are electrically adjustable units mounted on both sides of the vehicle. Contemporary models like the Proton X70 incorporate additional functionalities such as turn signals and blind spot monitoring systems. Notably, Section 14 of Malaysia's Road Transport Act 1987 mandates that all registered vehicles must be equipped with a compliant rearview system comprising at least one interior rearview mirror and two side mirrors, with non-compliance subject to fines up to 2,000 ringgit. Current mainstream rearview mirrors predominantly use tempered glass with ABS plastic housings, while premium brands often utilize coated glass for enhanced durability. Aftermarket modifications commonly include wide-view blue-tinted mirrors and power-folding mechanisms, typically priced between 150 to 800 ringgit.
