Facelifted Volkswagen Golf R Mk8.5 Launched In Malaysia–RM 338k, 333 PS/420 Nm with upgraded interior

The facelifted Volkswagen Golf R Mk8.5 has been launched in Malaysia on June 19, 2026, bringing more power, updated technology, and a refreshed design to Volkswagen’s flagship hot hatch lineup. The latest Golf R continues to be locally assembled (CKD) in Pekan, Pahang, making Malaysia the only country outside Germany to produce the Golf R.

The facelifted Golf R Mk8.5 is priced at RM337,790 (on the road without insurance) in Malaysia. The price includes Volkswagen's Assurance Package (VAP), which consists of a five year unlimited mileage warranty, five years of free scheduled maintenance, and five years of roadside assistance.

The new Golf R Mk8.5 gets an upgraded 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that now delivers 333 PS and 420 Nm of torque, making it more powerful than before. Power is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, helping the hot hatch sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. Volkswagen has also equipped the Golf R with its Torque Vectoring system, which helps improve grip and handling when driving through corners.

On the exterior, the Golf R Mk8.5 gets a refreshed look with a redesigned front bumper, an illuminated Volkswagen logo, updated LED lights, and new 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels. At the rear, it features an Akrapovič titanium quad-exhaust system, while Dolphin Grey is added as a new exterior colour option.

Inside, the Golf R presents an upgraded cabin that blends sportiness with next-generation digital innovation. A new tablet-style 12.9-inch media infotainment system with navigation and touch sensitive functionality powered by the latest MIB4 operating system for faster, more intuitive interaction.

The Golf R Mk8.5 also comes with a comprehensive range of safety and driver assistance technologies under Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive package. Standard features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Front Assist autonomous emergency braking, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Park Distance Control, as well as proactive occupant protection functions designed to enhance safety for both driver and passengers.
