China’s Rolls-Royce Rival, Hongqi, Coming to Malaysia in Mid-2026 with E-HS9 and H9 sedan; EV and V6 powertrains

Malaysia’s premium automotive scene is about to welcome a new heavyweight contender. Hongqi, China’s prestigious luxury car brand, is officially entering the Malaysian market in mid-2026, with the first model being the Hongqi E-HS9.

The other model that's been announced on Hongqi's Malaysian website is the H9 sedan.

Hongqi’s entry into Malaysia is to be led by Quill Group, which has been appointed as the official importer and CKD (local assembly) partner. The E-HS9 is already available in Singapore, making Malaysia the logical next step.

Hongqi E-HS9 is a full-size EV SUV over 5.2 metres long, powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. It produces up to 400 kW and 750 Nm of torque, allowing a 0–100 km/h time of around 4.9 seconds, with a driving range of 548 km. It is offered in both 6 and 7 seat configurations, focusing on a mix of performance, space, and high-end comfort.

Beyond that, the Hongqi H9 sedan is available with a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine producing 280 hp and 450 Nm of torque, paired with a 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. 

Based on the website, the interior of E-HS9 comes with Nappa leather upholstery, executive-style captain seats (6-seater option), up to 6 digital displays, ambient lighting, and a combination of wood and metal trims. Rear-seat comfort includes massage and recline functions. The overall experience is focused on chauffeur-driven luxury rather than just performance.

Meanwhile, the H9‘s cabin is also trimmed with Nappa leather, wood and metallic accents. Fold-out entertainment screens integrated into the front seatbacks, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof and a quality sound system.
