2026 Mazda CX-30 to get CX-5's 2.5L mild-hybrid engine in Japan-market refresh; prices from around RM 80k there

Mazda’s updated CX-30 is preparing for a Japanese market debut in July 2026, with the compact crossover set to receive a minor model-year refresh, a new 2.5-litre mild-hybrid variant and a special Air Edition grade, reports Japanese outlet Creative311.

The change matters because Mazda is broadening the CX-30 range rather than simply making cosmetic revisions. Alongside the existing 2.0-litre e-SKYACTIV G mild-hybrid setup, the model is said to gain a new e-SKYACTIV G 2.5 powertrain shared with the new-gen CX-5, giving buyers a larger-displacement petrol option in the same body style.

According to the information surfaced so far, the refreshed CX-30 will continue to be based on a 4-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, but the 2.5-litre version is the main mechanical addition. Mazda is also introducing a new Air Edition special grade, which appears to target buyers looking for a better-equipped version without moving to a fully loaded flagship.

The Air Edition is said to be offered on both the 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre mild-hybrid grades, but the equipment gap between the two is notable. That difference is one of the key points of interest in the updated line-up, as the 2.5-litre Air Edition may offer stronger value once the standard equipment lists are compared.

Equipment confirmed for the 2.5 Air Edition includes roof rails, synthetic leather and Leganu upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a BOSE premium audio system. These items position the trim above the more conventional entry variants in comfort and convenience.

Prices for the updated CX-30 in Japan start from 2,640,400 yen (~RM 77,892) for the base 20C variant, going up all the way to 3,520,000 yen (~RM 103,840) for the 25 Air Edition.

It's a little too early to tell if something similar will trickle to the Malaysian-market, locally-assembled (CKD) Mazda CX-30. Ours are all only available with a 2.0-litre engine, with prices starting from RM 127,300 to RM 145,300.
