Less than a month since its initial preview, Chery Malaysia has launched the new 2026 Chery Tiggo 9 in the country – the company’s flagship SUV under the Chery brand. Prices start at RM 166,800 if you take the Early Bird Launch package + Flexi, or RM 179,800 with the same package + Prime, for added benefits.

At launch, Chery Malaysia is offering just one variant of the Tiggo 9, powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol unit; the CSH plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain should come at a later date, considering other models in the Chery stable already have it.
This sole variant is priced at RM 179,800 (on-the-road, without insurance), putting it slightly more than the Jaecoo J8, but between the Omoda C9 FWD (RM 168,800) and C9 AWD (RM 188,800).
The initial batch of the 2026 Chery Tiggo 9 is imported (CBU) from China; subsequent batches will be locally-assembled (CKD).

The 2026 Chery Tiggo 9 adopts an elegant design, without overdoing the design elements – the Chery grille sits proudly in front, replete with chrome elements for a more premium touch.

Towards the sides are a set of 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels – the largest so far for a Chery-branded model here in Malaysia.

As for the rear-end, there’s a full-width LED tail light, with the Tiggo 9 script on the lower left corner of the tailgate, while the right corner gets a small AWD emblem. The twin exhaust tips aren’t fake, as the real exhaust is piped through.
Colour options of the Chery Tiggo 9 include Carbon Black and Matte Grey.

Stepping into the cabin and drivers are greeted by a 10-way, power-adjustable driver seat with memory function, while the front passenger gets a 6-way power-adjustable seat. Both seats also feature massage function, together with ventilated function.

Moving to the second-row seats, there’s also ventilation and heating function here, but with the additional of a ‘boss’ switch that allows the second-row passenger to adjust the front passenger seat for more legroom and space.

The Tiggo 9 also features a third-row seat, creating a 2+3+2 seating configuration. The third-row seats can be folded 50:50, while the second-row seats can be folded 60:40. With all seats folded down, boot space can be expanded from 448 litres to a massive 2,065 litres.

In terms of infotainment and tech, the 2026 Chery Tiggo 9 offers a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display, matching the likes of the Jetour T2 and iCaur 03, while being larger than the Omoda C9 and Jaecoo J8.

Said infotainment display supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and pumps audio through a 14-speaker Sony Premium audio system. Scattered across the cabin are 2 USB-A and 2 USB-C ports for charging. The front occupants also get a 50W wireless charging with cooling function.
Powering the 2026 Chery Tiggo 9 is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 256 PS and 390 Nm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

All those ponies are deployed to all four wheels via an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. Chery is also keen to point out that the Tiggo 9 offers no less than seven drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Offroad, allowing it to adapt to (almost) any terrain.

Chery quotes a fuel consumption figure of 8.3L/100 km, though test cycle was not specified.
