The Return of an Icon: Mitsubishi to Revive the Pajero Lineup

After years of absence, one of the most legendary nameplates in off-roading is poised for a massive comeback. Reports out of Japan suggest Mitsubishi is preparing to revive the iconic "Pajero", transforming it from a single model into a family of SUVs that will anchor the brand's next-generation lineup.

According to sources close to the Japanese media, Mitsubishi is plotting a "Three Pajero Brothers" strategy that capitalises on its rich off-road heritage while pushing forward for electrification.

The Flagship Returns

Leading the charge is the all-new full-size Pajero, expected to make its global debut around late 2026. The new flagship is rumored to ride on the rugged ladder-frame chassis borrowed from the latest-generation Triton pickup truck.

Powertrain options are expected to launch with a robust 2.4-litre turbodiesel, followed by a highly anticipated Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant. Pricing in Japan is estimated to range between 5.7 million and 7.9 million yen that's roughly equivalent to RM 143k and RM 198k before Exise Duty and SST respectively.

Expanding the Family

Minus the Xpander pun intended, the revival strategy extends beyond the premium segment. Mitsubishi is also reportedly developing modern successors to its smaller, cult-classic off-roaders named the compact Pajero iO and the ultra-compact Pajero Mini.

This aggressive rollout aligns perfectly with Mitsubishi’s recently announced medium-to-long-term business plan, which promises the introduction of 13 new electrified models by 2031. For off-road enthusiasts, the message is clear. Mitsubishi is finally bringing its rally-winning DNA back to the forefront.
