Spied! AMA02 Proton Saga Cross spotted again, reveals more details

Watch out Perodua Ativa – Proton is currently working hard on its upcoming AMA02-based Proton Saga Cross, slated to debut here later this year.

Courtesy of our friends over at Funtasticko, we now have separate spyshots of the purported AMA02 Proton Saga Cross – one within the vicinity of the Proton Centre of Excellence (COE) and another in Genting Highlands.

Despite the thick camouflage, both units appear to be different variants, as evident from the size of the roof-mounted spoiler; the unit seen in Shah Alam dons a larger rear spoiler compared to its counterpart that was seen in Genting.

This could hint at the different powertrain options the AMA02 Proton Saga Cross is rumoured to get – the first is the naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre BHE15 that churns out 120 PS and 150 Nm. Power is expected to be routed to the front wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The second one is a bit more exciting, as word on the street is that this A-segment SUV could be the recipient to Proton’s 1.5-litre FutureMotion petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, likely offering 120 kW (163 PS).

Funtasticko also mentioned that trial production of the AMA02 Saga Cross is expected to commence at the Tanjong Malim plant by August, while mass production is slated to commence around late-October. As such, a November or December 2026 launch is likely.
