Jaecoo J5 bookings opened in Vietnam: Pet-friendly CKD B-SUV offered in ICE, HEV, and BEV, from RM 104k

Omoda & Jaecoo Vietnam has opened bookings for the Jaecoo J5, with the small SUV set to be locally assembled (CKD) in Vietnam and offered in four variants across three powertrain types. The company says the model is aimed at the compact SUV class and will receive official pricing in August 2026.

Deposit collection runs from 10-July to 31-August 2026, with buyers required to pay VND 10 million (~RM 1.9k). Deliveries are expected from August through October 2026, depending on variant and order timing.

For the pre-launch period, the company has announced price ceilings rather than final retail prices. The J5 Premium petrol variant goes for VND 569 million (~RM 104k), the J5 SHS-H Premium at VND 629 million (~RM 115k), while the two higher-spec Flagship versions - the SHS-H Flagship and BEV Flagship - are both set at no more than VND 699 million (~RM 128k).

Omoda & Jaecoo says the official prices due in August 2026 will not be higher than these caps. If the final launch price exceeds the announced ceiling, the brand says it will compensate customers with five times the deposit amount.

The Jaecoo J5 is the first model from the brand to be assembled in Vietnam. Its dimensions place it in direct competition with models such as the Mitsubishi Xforce, Toyota Yaris Cross, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Honda HR-V.

The SUV measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is listed at 184 mm for the BEV version and 176 mm for the petrol and SHS-H variants.

Design-wise, the J5 uses a boxy, angular body style, while the cabin follows a minimalist layout with large screens. The standard J5 Premium comes with a multi-link rear suspension, LED headlamps, double-layer acoustic glass for the windows, folding side mirrors with heating, cruise control, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Higher trims add a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, an advanced driver assistance system, a 540-degree HD camera system and six airbags. Jaecoo also says the cabin materials are chosen to resist scratches, bacteria and odours, a detail it highlights for pet owners.

On the powertrain side, the SHS-H hybrid variants are claimed to be capable of more than 1,000 km of combined driving range after a full fuel and battery fill. The BEV version is rated at 461 km of range on the NEDC cycle.

Warranty coverage is a major part of the launch pitch. The J5 Premium and J5 SHS-H versions come with a 10-year or 1,000,000 km engine warranty, whichever comes first. The high-voltage battery in the J5 BEV is covered for 8 years or 200,000 km.

Before its Vietnam launch, the Jaecoo J5 has already been sold in several other regional markets. The brand says the BEV variant led EV registrations in Thailand from November 2025 to April 2026, while Omoda & Jaecoo recorded 8,694 EV sales in the first quarter of 2026. In Indonesia, cumulative Jaecoo J5 EV sales reportedly approached 10,600 units in the first four months of 2026, and the model has also been used by police patrol units there.

Closer to home, Omoda | Jaecoo recently previewed the Jaecoo J5 EV, which will soon add an electrified variant alongside the ICE variant that was launched here a few months ago. No sign if the J5 HEV will arrive here or not, however.
