2026 VW Tayron launched in Malaysia: 7-seater SUV is priced from RM 190k, Elegance and R-Line

Shortly after the registration of interest (RoI) page was opened, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has launched the new 2026 Volkswagen Tayron in the country.

Overview

According to VPCM, the newly-launched 2026 Volkswagen Tayron is positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg as a premium, more upscale SUV. Like the Tiguan Allspace, the 2026 Tayron is a seven-seater SUV.

Two variants will be available here: Elegance and R-Line, with both variants catering to various customer needs. The former offers a 1.5-litre eTSI MHEV powertrain, while the latter is powered by a more potent 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI engine.

Prices start from RM 190,660 for the Elegance variant, while the R-Line's estimated price is between RM 259,000 to RM 269,000, as the latter is currently on preview only. Do keep in mind that the prices exclude the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP); opt for VAP and price of the Tayron Elegance increases by RM 10,100.

Both Volkswagen Tayron variants sold here are locally-assembled (CKD) at the Pekan, Pahang facility.

Exterior

The 2026 Volkswagen Tayron adopts Volkswagen’s latest SUV design language, with offers LED Plus headlights up front for the Elegance variant, while the R-Line swaps those out for a pair of IQ.Light HD Matrix LED headlights with glare-free high beam technology. Regardless, both variants offer 3D LED tail lights, with the R-Line adding dynamic turn signals.

The R-Line can be further distinguished by its R-Line package, with adds deeper side air vents on the front bumper, with an aggressive mesh pattern on the grille. The Tayron Elegance, on the other hand, offers a host of chrome inserts on the front grille, with vertical air intakes on the sides.

It’s the same for the rear-end – the R-Line gets the same mesh pattern on the lower half of the rear bumper, while the Elegance offers a simpler-looking bumper.

A small eTSI emblem on the right side of the tailgate denotes the powertrain of the Elegance, while the R-Line variant gets a 4Motion emblem, hinting at the variant’s all-paw capabilities.

Colour options include two new colours – Nightshade Blue and Oyster Silver. Other colour options of the Volkswagen Tayron include Dolphin Grey, Grenadilla Black, and Oryx White.

Interior

Inside the cabin, both variants of the Tayron offer Varenna leather upholstery, as well as a 12-way power-adjustable front seats with memory function, heating and ventilation functions, massage function, and lumbar support.

This seven-seater SUV also offers sliding second-row seats, as well as foldable second- and third-row seats.

Tech-wise, both variants offer a 10.25-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro digital driver display. The Elegance offers a 12.9-inch Discover infotainment system, pumping audio through an 8-speaker sound system, while the R-Line offers a larger 15.0-inch Discover Pro max infotainment system, which is paired to an 11-speaker, 16-channel Harman Kardon Premium Sound System. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard for both variants.  

Powertrain

Kicking things off is the 2026 Volkswagen Tayron Elegance, which gets a mild-hybrid (MHEV) system with the turbocharged 1.5-litre eTSI powertrain, offering 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque, deployed to the front wheels via a 7-speed, wet-type, dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Then there’s the more potent R-Line, which get a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that outputs 265 PS and 400 Nm. All these German ponies are deployed to all four wheels via Volkswagen’s trick 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

Volkswagen says that the Tayron Elegance takes 9.6 seconds to complete the century sprint, while the R-Line takes just 6.1 seconds. As for fuel consumption, the Elegance consumes 6.1 L/100 km, while the R-Line consumes 8.5 L/100 km, both under the WLTP cycle.
