Mercedes-Benz electric C-Class begins mass production in Hungary ahead of China long-wheelbase launch in 2026

Mercedes-Benz has officially started mass production of the all-new electric C-Class at its factory in Hungary, a milestone that also marks the plant’s first core battery-electric model.

The new saloon is built on Mercedes-Benz’s dedicated MB.EA electric architecture and uses an 800V system, putting it in line with the brand’s next wave of EVs designed for faster charging and improved efficiency.

For China, a long-wheelbase (LWB) version has already appeared in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing list, indicating that the model is moving toward a local launch in 2026.

Visually, the electric C-Class adopts Mercedes-Benz’s latest family design language. The front end features a large shield-shaped grille with many illuminated LED elements, a styling cue that has become one of the defining traits of the brand’s new-generation electric cars.

Dimensionally, the model measures 4,977 mm or 4,990 mm in length, 1,876 mm in width and 1,510 mm or 1,493 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,051 mm.

Wheel options listed for the car include 235/50 R19 and 255/45 R19 tyres, as well as larger 235/45 R20 and 255/40 R20 combinations, suggesting multiple trim and appearance configurations.

In profile, the sedan takes on a fastback-style silhouette with pronounced front and rear wheel arches to create a wider stance. Hidden door handles are also fitted, continuing the clean surfacing seen across many recent Mercedes-Benz EVs.

At the rear, the car uses a full-width taillight design with the Mercedes-Benz emblem integrated into the centre section. A small ducktail-style lip on the boot lid adds a more sporting touch to the overall shape.

Powertrain details from the China filing show the C 350 L uses a dual-motor setup. The motors are jointly produced by Bosch and Mercedes-Benz, with model codes EM0041 and EM0037.

Their maximum outputs are listed at 163 kW and 300 kW respectively. With local production underway in Hungary and the long-wheelbase version already registered in China, the electric C-Class is now entering a more concrete stage of its rollout.
