This is hot – we were recently tipped that Xiaomi Technology has recently started hiring an automotive-related position in Malaysia, fueling speculations that they’re finally ready to introduce their EVs here.

According to the job post on LinkedIn, Xiaomi Technology is currently looking for an Automotive Government Relations Manager, with the person set to be the primary government liaison. Said person will mainly be involved in engaging both internally and externally to support Xiaomi’s automotive business in Malaysia.

Additionally, the job posting also requires the applicant to establish and maintain relation with government ministries, regulatory agencies, as well as industry associations, including MIDA, MITI, MARii, Customs, and JPJ.

Curiously, said job posting also mentioned that the applicant should possess proven understanding of Malaysia’s government policies, including CBU and CKD operations. Could Xiaomi eventually CKD their cars here? Time will tell.

As a quick recap, Xiaomi’s automotive journey started in December 2023 with the introduction of the Xiaomi SU7. Its SUV brethren, the Xiaomi YU7, followed in June 2025.

Though Xiaomi lacks the automotive background of many of its rivals, Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi reportedly test drove over 170 different vehicles over a period of three years, and he singled out Porsche and Ferrari as benchmarks he looked up to the most.

Officially, Xiaomi benchmarked the SU7’s driving dynamics against the Porsche Taycan, and its tech-related features against the Tesla Model S.

In China, the Xiaomi SU7 is priced between CNY 219,900 (~RM 132k) to CNY 629,900 (~RM 380k), while the YU7 goes for CNY 233,500 (~RM 141k) to CNY 389,900 (~RM 235k).
