Toyota’s high-performance GR family could soon be welcoming yet another family member, as spyshots of a new test mule recently surfaced in Japan, specifically at the Fuji Speedway.
Seen here is a new two-door coupe with GR Yaris headlights and tail lights, though with a completely different and low-slung body.

According to various Japanese sources, we’re potentially looking at the revived Toyota Celica, tentatively called the GR Celica. Yes – this mule looks to be an evolution of the WRC27 rally car prototype that was spotted earlier this year, as both cars have pronounced fenders and a large front air intake.

Furthermore, @You_SuikoyoAZ, the person who posted this on X (formerly Twitter), also recorded a short clip of the mule in action. Compared to the three-cylinder GR Yaris, the mule has a deeper exhaust note, suggesting that this mule could be powered by Toyota’s upcoming 2.0-litre G20E four-cylinder turbo unit.
And unlike the GR Yaris and GR Corolla, this upcoming GR model is said to feature a mid-engine layout, suggesting that it could even be a revived Toyota MR2. After all, Toyota was busy filing trademarks for both GR Celica and GR MR2 over the past year.
