2026 Volvo EX90 to be updated in Malaysia: 800V is here, up to 350 kW DC FC

Just slightly over a year since making its Malaysian debut, the Volvo EX90 is set for an update soon, as Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has announced that its flagship EV SUV will be updated soon.

Said update will encompass several items, with the headlining feature being its new 800-volt electrical architecture. This marks an improvement over the pre-updated model, which offered a 400-volt electrical architecture.

The increase in voltage has improved the DC fast charging rate too, from 250 kW to 350 kW. With a compatible DC charger, the 2026 Volvo EX90 can recharge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes – 8 minutes less than before. Also, a quick 10-minute charge adds another 250 km of range.

Unchanged is the battery capacity – the 2026 Volvo EX90 is expected to feature the same 111 kWh (107 kWh net capacity) nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery pack, offering a WLTP-rated range of 623 km.

In its Twin Motor Performance trim, the 2026 Volvo EX90 boasts 500 kW (680 PS) and 870 Nm of torque, propelling this EV SUV from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Top speed is capped at 180 km/h.

Apart from the new electrical architecture, the 2026 Volvo EX90 will also benefit from a new core computer powered by dual nVidia Drive AGX Orin system-on-chip (SoC). The new core computer, provides 500 TOPs (trillion operations per second of computing power, powers the artificial intelligence (AI) features as well as safety system.

These under-the-skin changes are the biggest changes; visually, the 2026 Volvo EX90 is visually the same as before, featuring a pair of Iron Mark LED headlights with pixel-like LED DRLs, closed-off front grille, C-shape LED tail lights, and 21-inch wheels.

The updated 2026 Volvo EX90 should be locally-assembled (CKD) too. When the model was launched back in April 2025, it was imported (CBU) from China, with VCM mentioning that CKD works should commence by end-2025.
