For Malaysian drivers, the Geely EX5 will feel instantly familiar, as it is the Thai market's twin to the Proton e.MAS 7. Both models share the same architecture and nearly identical core specifications — essentially two versions of the same compact electric SUV tailored specifically for Southeast Asian road conditions.

It is worth noting that the Proton e.MAS 7 is the first electric model launched by Proton following Geely's investment in 2017. As its global twin, the Geely EX5 shares a design DNA that is inherently suited for Malaysian roads.

Recently, Geely expanded the EX5 lineup in Thailand with the debut of the range-topping Max+ variant, joining the existing Pro and Max trims. Fully imported (CBU) from China, the Max+ is priced at 899,000 Thai Baht (approx. RM 109,000). This price point aligns closely with the mid-to-high-spec Proton e.MAS 7 in Malaysia, positioning it as a compelling and high-value option that has already captured the attention of many local EV enthusiasts.

The Geely EX5 Max+ is a compact electric SUV that offers a comfortable interior for small families and a refined driving experience across urban and suburban areas. The defining feature of the Max+ is its battery capacity.

In the Thai market, while the Pro and Max variants utilize a 60.22 kWh Aegis Short Blade LFP battery delivering a 495 km NEDC range, the Max+ steps up to a larger 68.39 kWh pack. This upgrade extends its driving range to 525 km (NEDC), or a more real-world 450 km under the stricter WLTP cycle.

For Malaysian drivers who frequently undertake interstate journeys, this added range provides a practical safety net, significantly reducing range anxiety on longer trips.

In terms of power, the Max+ retains the front-mounted single motor found across the lineup, with a maximum power of 218 horsepower (160kW) and a peak torque of 320 Nm. This provides a smooth yet spirited driving experience. The charging specifications also remain unchanged: it supports 11kW AC charging and 100kW DC fast charging. With the latter, a 30% to 80% charge takes only 20 minutes.

In addition, the Max+ is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, which lend the SUV a more commanding and premium presence compared to the 18-inch wheels on other trims. All other configurations, such as safety systems, infotainment, and comfort features, remain the same as the Pro and Max versions.
