Kuala Lumpur, 29 January 2026 – Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia today officially launched the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s New Energy development in Malaysia. As the first Chinese luxury New Energy plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) MPV to be assembled locally, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV reflects GWM’s long-term commitment to Malaysia as a strategic manufacturing and regional export hub for ASEAN.

The official launch was attended by Yang Berhormat Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), together with Mr. James Yang, Vice President of GWM International, and Dr. Hu Xin, Chief Engineer of High Voltage Systems, GWM, underscoring the importance of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV to GWM’s regional strategy.

At the core of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is GWM’s Hi4 intelligent hybrid system, combining a turbocharged engine with dual electric motors to deliver electric drive on both the front and rear axles.

The system produces a combined output of 442 PS and 642 Nm of torque, achieving 0–100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, while Intelligent Torque Vectoring Control (iTVC) continuously manages torque distribution to support stable and confident driving across varied Malaysian road and weather conditions.

The Hi4 PHEV system in the WEY G9 is designed to remove the usual compromises between electric efficiency and long-distance usability. It offers up to 170 kilometres of pure electric driving, supporting quiet and efficient daily commuting, while delivering a total driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometres for longer journeys.

Even when battery levels are low, fuel consumption remains efficient at 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres, supported by intelligent energy management and seamless switching between Series and Parallel Hybrid modes. This ensures predictable efficiency in real-world Malaysian driving environments.

A 3.3-kilowatt external power output supports outdoor and travel-related use cases, while a 12.5-litre hot-and-cold refrigerator, capable of operating for up to 24 hours even when the vehicle is switched off, adds meaningful convenience for long journeys and everyday routines.

Both features are further enhanced by app connectivity, allowing users to monitor and control power output and refrigerator temperature remotely via the vehicle’s mobile app, ensuring seamless management, flexibility, and peace of mind at all times.

Safety is engineered into every aspect of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV, with protection extended equally across all three rows. The body structure comprises more than 83.01 percent high-strength steel, with critical pillars reinforced using materials rated between 1,500 and 2,000 MPa, and a roof structure capable of withstanding up to 12 tonnes of pressure.

Full-length curtain airbags cover all seating rows, while the battery system has been validated through 89 rigorous safety tests. The vehicle is also equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, offering more than 20 intelligent safety features designed to support the driver and protect occupants in everyday driving scenarios.
