Tesla Cybercab: We got a real-life look at this sci-fi taxi in China

Tesla's fully autonomous taxi, the Cybercab, has recently surfaced in China, where we were on hand to capture a set of exclusive photos of the vehicle.

The Cybercab does away with the usual steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedals, as well as conventional wing mirrors, relying entirely on its autonomous driving system. It is a fundamental change to the way we think about driving.

Exterior: Coupe profile & butterfly doors

The front end gets a smooth, coupe-like profile, with a full-width LED light bar and projector headlights that give it a distinctly futuristic look.

The side profile is particularly sleek, with butterfly doors standing out as one of the Cybercab's most eye-catching features.

At the rear, the design takes cues from Tesla's Cybertruck, including another full-width light bar.

Interior: Pure autonomous tech

As Elon Musk has previously revealed, the Cybercab has been designed without the usual hardware needed to drive a car.

There is no steering wheel, accelerator or brake pedal, with the vehicle intended to rely on Tesla's latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) system instead.

Inside, it features integrated seats with segmented backrests and cushions, a foldable central armrest, and a single touchscreen dominating the dashboard.

Futuristic tech

Discarding traditional plug-in ports, the Cybercab is engineered to rely exclusively on wireless inductive charging.

The cabin also features an automated mechanical arm designed to clean and tidy the interior between trips, making it tailor-made for autonomous ride-hailing fleets.
