One-millionth BMW M car rolls off the line at Munich plant

BMW M has reached a major milestone, with its one-millionth high-performance car rolling off the production line at the company's Munich plant in Germany.

The landmark one-millionth car is a BMW M3 finished in BMW Individual's exclusive Fire Orange III paint.

Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH, was at the Munich plant for the occasion, personally taking the milestone car from plant director Peter Weber.

For more than half a century, BMW M has built its reputation around combining motorsport-derived performance with the practicality needed for everyday driving, winning a loyal following around the world.

The arrival of the first-generation BMW M3 40 years ago cemented the M name as a firm favourite among performance car enthusiasts.

BMW's historic Munich plant, which has been in operation for more than a century, has witnessed the production of countless iconic petrol-powered M cars. It is now also taking on a key role in BMW M's transition towards an electric future.

To prepare for the transition, BMW has invested €650 million in the plant. Around one-third of the site has been extensively reworked while production continues, including the construction of a state-of-the-art body shop and new assembly lines.

From 2027, the flagship plant will produce only all-electric models. The arrival of the one-millionth M car therefore marks the beginning of a new chapter for BMW M as it moves towards an electric future.
