S P Setia and Gentari sign MOU to expand EV charging infrastructure

S P Setia Bhd and Petronas-owned Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the deployment of EV charging infrastructure across selected S P Setia developments.

Under the agreement, the two companies will explore the identification of suitable charging sites, feasibility assessments, installation, operation and maintenance of EV charging facilities.

The partnership will also look at ways to encourage EV adoption and make charging infrastructure easier to find and use. The scope covers residential and commercial developments under S P Setia, with both parties also looking to explore further business opportunities in clean energy and green mobility.

S P Setia President and CEO Datuk Zaini Yusoff said making EV charging more accessible across Setia townships would be a practical step towards greener mobility.

He said the move could help reduce reliance on petrol, cut vehicle emissions and support Malaysia's transition towards a lower-carbon future. The partnership is also expected to improve everyday convenience and liveability across existing developments, strengthening the overall value of Setia communities.

Gentari Chief Green Mobility Officer Fadzrul Ahmad said the partnership would explore how charging infrastructure could be integrated into Setia's growing townships and communities, making EV ownership more practical and convenient for residents and visitors.

Gentari Green Mobility is a subsidiary of Gentari Sdn Bhd, which is wholly owned by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas). Gentari's business covers three main areas: renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility.

S P Setia previously signed a similar MoU with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) in 2022 to promote the installation of solar panels, battery energy storage systems and EV charging facilities across its developments.

The two companies did not disclose the number of charging stations, installation timeline or investment value at the signing ceremony. Further deployment will be carried out progressively based on the feasibility assessment of individual projects.
