BMW 7 Series PHEV prioritises rear-seat comfort and entertainment

At nearly 5.4 metres long and 1.95 metres wide, this is a substantial sedan with an appropriately imposing stance. The long bonnet, upright front end and split-light treatment create a bold face, while the extended 3,215 mm wheelbase gives the side profile a formal, well-proportioned look.

The cabin is clearly arranged around both driver technology and rear-passenger comfort. Up front, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 14.9-inch centre screen, head-up display, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto handle everyday connectivity. Rear occupants get powered seat memory, adjustable leg rests and lumbar support, plus heating, ventilation and massage. The 31.3-inch entertainment screen and 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system make the second row especially suitable for chauffeured travel.

The plug-in hybrid system brings together a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine, a 145 kW electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine contributes 313 hp and 450 Nm, while the motor produces 280 Nm. A 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds gives this large luxury sedan a distinctly performance-oriented character.

A 3,215 mm wheelbase provides a substantial foundation for the five-seat cabin, with the body stretching to 5,391 mm overall. The 525-litre boot also gives the plug-in hybrid useful luggage capacity for airport transfers, business travel or family trips.

Its driver-assistance package addresses motorway driving, lane positioning and low-speed manoeuvring. Lane-change assistance, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, traffic-sign recognition, forward and rear collision warnings, autonomous emergency braking and a surround-view camera are all included. Front, side and curtain airbags add occupant protection, while the Level 2 assistance suite supports the driver during longer journeys.

The plug-in hybrid layout combines a 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery with a 65-litre fuel tank, giving owners the flexibility to charge regularly while retaining petrol capability for longer journeys. Using its 7.4 kW charging system, a full 0-100% charge takes three hours, which suits home or workplace charging routines.
