ANC System

2026-10-02 17:00:08

The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system is an active acoustic control technology that electronically cancels specific low-frequency noise inside the cabin. While driving, engine boom, exhaust resonance, and tyre-road friction transmit through the body structure into the interior, generating fatiguing low-frequency rumble. Operating on the principle of "destructive interference", the ANC system emits sound waves of identical amplitude but opposite phase via the in-cabin speakers to cancel out unwanted frequencies, significantly enhancing cabin quietness and refinement.

Core Technical Architecture and Operating Principle

The core architecture of an ANC system primarily comprises noise-detecting sensors (in-cabin microphones), engine speed/vibration sensors, a digital signal processor (DSP), and the factory audio speaker system.

Multi-Point Noise Acquisition & RPM Synchronisation:

Multiple high-sensitivity noise-cancelling microphones are strategically positioned along the headliner or cabin interior to capture residual cabin noise in real time. Simultaneously, the system monitors engine ignition pulses and RPM signals via the CAN bus or dedicated sensors, accurately tracking the frequency variation patterns of engine order harmonics.

Real-Time Anti-Phase Sound Calculation & Cancellation:

Upon receiving acoustic and engine speed data, the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) instantly calculates an "anti-phase sound wave" matching the target noise in frequency and amplitude but inverted in phase. This signal is fed into the in-car audio system and played through the speakers in real time. The anti-phase waves superimpose and acoustically interfere with the incoming low-frequency cabin noise, cancelling out sound pressure levels and lowering the overall interior noise floor.

Safety Specifications and Physical Limitations

Understanding ANC Frequency & Noise Boundaries:

The ANC system is specifically engineered to counteract periodic low-frequency noise within a targeted bandwidth (typically between 20 Hz and 300 Hz, such as engine boom and low-frequency road rumble). Full-spectrum noise reduction should not be expected, as the system cannot effectively eliminate sudden, high-frequency disturbances (such as sharp tyre squeal, wind noise, vehicle horns, or impact clatters).

Hardware Integrity & Audio Modification Restrictions:

The noise cancellation performance of the ANC system depends heavily on the cabin's native acoustics and precise microphone/speaker phase calibration. Removing factory-fitted speakers, upgrading to aftermarket power amplifiers, or placing obstructions near the headliner microphones without professional acoustic assessment is strictly discouraged. Additionally, if an audio system fault or harness damage occurs, blindly severing the noise cancellation wiring must be avoided; doing so may cause phase mismatches that amplify low-frequency resonance instead, compromising passenger acoustic comfort and auditory well-being.
