Audi Q8

2026-10-10 10:40:01

The Audi Q8 is the flagship executive coupe SUV from Audi, having made its global premiere in 2018. As the range-topper of the Audi 'Q' SUV stable, the Q8 shares the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform with the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus, setting a new benchmark in the luxury SUV segment through its bold design aesthetics, exceptional build quality, and distinct coupe-like stance. Fully imported (CBU) via official channels, the 2026 line-up in the Taiwan market includes variants such as the 55 TFSI quattro S line Black Edition.

Model Overview

Positioned as a luxury mid-to-large coupe SUV, the Audi Q8 serves as the flagship model within the Audi SUV portfolio. Its core appeal lies in seamlessly blending athletic coupe styling, flagship-grade in-car tech, and robust quattro permanent all-wheel-drive capabilities. For the 2026 model year, its exterior dimensions measure between 4,992 mm and 5,006 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,696 mm to 1,697 mm in height, with a 2,998 mm wheelbase. The 5-door, 5-seater SUV is equipped with an 85-litre fuel tank and offers a boot capacity ranging from 605 to 1,755 litres. Pricing-wise, the 2026 55 TFSI quattro S line is tagged in the NT$4 million region (around the RM900,000 mark). Sitting at the top of the performance hierarchy, the 4.0T V8-powered 2026 RS Q8 carries a recommended retail price of RM1,468,900.

Design Language

The exterior styling of the Audi Q8 embodies the brand's latest progressive design language. Up front, it features a bold octagonal Singleframe grille with six vertical uprights, flanked by HD Matrix LED headlamps to deliver an imposing road presence. Along the sides, a sleek shoulder line complements the sloping coupe roofline and frameless doors, accentuating its aggressive profile. Around the back, there is a full-width LED light bar; the post-2024 facelift further adds optional digital OLED rear combination lamps with smart proximity warning functions. Exterior paint finishes include striking shades such as Sakhir Gold, Waitomo Blue, and Ascari Blue. The Black Edition adds high-gloss black treatment to the front grille, wing mirror caps, and window trims, finished with massive 22-inch black alloy wheels for a sportier look.

Inside, the Audi Q8 adopts the flagship triple-screen MMI cockpit shared with the Audi A8—featuring a 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch upper infotainment touchscreen, and an 8.6-inch lower climate control display. The cabin is trimmed extensively in premium Nappa leather, Alcantara, and genuine wood inlays, while the Valcona leather sport seats feature diamond-pattern stitching for a bespoke touch. A 30-colour ambient lighting system further enhances the cabin atmosphere at night.

Powertrain and Performance

The Audi Q8 is offered with 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder and 3.0 TFSI V6 petrol powertrains. The core volume model is powered by the EA839 3.0 TFSI V6 turbo unit—co-developed by Audi and Porsche, which also powers the Porsche Cayenne. It churns out 250 kW (340 PS) and 500 Nm of torque, with a wide peak torque band spanning 1,370 to 4,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) system to aid acceleration, improve throttle response, and enhance fuel efficiency. Power is channelled through an 8-speed Tiptronic torque-converter automatic transmission that delivers smooth, rapid gear shifts. It completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.2 seconds, onwards to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Combined fuel consumption under the WLTC cycle is rated between 9.5 and 10.57 L/100 km.

The range-topping RS Q8 is propelled by a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine delivering a mammoth 441 kW (600 PS), taking just 3.8 seconds to hit 100 km/h from a standstill. The 2025 RS Q8 45th Anniversary Edition is priced at RM1,724,800.

Chassis and Handling

Built on the premium MLB Evo architecture, the Audi Q8 shares its underpinnings with the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus. For ride and handling, the SUV comes fitted with adaptive air suspension that continuously adjusts ride height based on vehicle speed and drive mode selection. Ground clearance can be raised by 50 mm at speeds below 35 km/h, lowered by 40 mm in Dynamic mode or above 160 km/h for better high-speed stability, and lowered by 65 mm when stationary for effortless cargo loading and access. An all-wheel steering (AWS) system is also available as an option.

Audi's signature eighth-generation quattro permanent all-wheel drive is standard, featuring a segment-exclusive purely mechanical self-locking centre differential. Under normal driving conditions, the torque split is 40:60 front-to-rear for a rear-wheel-drive biased feel; when slip occurs, up to 70% of drive can be directed to the front axle, or up to 85% to the rear axle. Drivers can also toggle between seven drive modes via Audi drive select, including an dedicated off-road setting.

Cabin and Equipment

In terms of infotainment and connectivity, the Q8 features the Audi virtual cockpit digital instrument panel and MMI touch response system. The centre screen supports 3D city navigation maps and natural voice control. It is fully compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay, 5G on-board connectivity, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Comfort features are comprehensive, including four-zone deluxe automatic climate control (with an air ioniser and allergen filter), front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, as well as heated rear seats. Audiophiles are treated to a standard 730-watt Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System, with an ultra-high-end 23-speaker, 1,920-watt Advanced 3D setup available on higher trims. Luggage capacity stands at 605 litres, expanding to 1,755 litres with the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats laid flat.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The Audi Q8 meets top-tier standards in active safety and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Passive safety is handled by eight airbags in total, covering dual front, front side, rear side, full-length curtain, and dual front knee airbags.

Active safety is bolstered by the Audi pre sense front/city suite (incorporating Autonomous Emergency Braking - AEB), featuring Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop&Go, Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), Blind Spot Monitoring (Audi side assist), Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Collision Avoidance Assist. Manoeuvring is made easy with a 360-degree surround-view camera and Park Assist. Higher variants add Night Vision Assist, a Head-Up Display (HUD), and Remote Park Assist Plus. Standard dynamic aids also include Hill Descent Control (HDC), Hill Start Assist, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

Market Performance and Verdict

Ever since its introduction in 2018, the Audi Q8 has cemented its status in the global premium luxury SUV space with its head-turning coupe profile and dynamic road manners. As the halo SUV for the Four Rings, sharing high-end mechanical underpinnings with the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus gives the Q8 a decisive engineering advantage in the million-Ringgit luxury bracket.

Motoring reviews widely commend the Q8 for its slick, responsive triple-screen MMI setup, the acoustic clarity of the B&O sound system, and the refined pairing between the EA839 3.0T V6 engine and 8-speed automatic box, delivering seamless power delivery across the rev range; the mechanical quattro drivetrain also offers impeccable grip both on tarmac and off the beaten track. On the downside, the raked coupe roofline does slightly eat into rear passenger headroom, the glossy climate control screen is a fingerprint magnet, and some advanced ADAS features remain on the options list. In showroom sales, the model has seen attractive promotional campaigns—with cash rebates reaching up to RM210,000 on selected variants in late 2025. Combining coupe-like elegance, effortless performance, and flagship tech, the Audi Q8 continues to stand out as a highly desirable contender in its class.
