BAIC X7 is a front-engine front-wheel-drive mid-size/compact SUV independently developed by BAIC Motor. based on the BMFA (Beijing Modular Functional Architecture) platform. This vehicle is the flagship product of BAIC Motor's comprehensive entry into the "3.0 Era", highlighting class-leading space and digital smart cockpits in multiple markets worldwide.

Vehicle Overview

BAIC X7 is positioned as an urban boutique mid-size (or class-leading compact) SUV. As the pioneering work of BAIC Motor's architecture transformation, the historical tag of this vehicle series is "The first mass-produced model of the BMFA modular architecture". Its core selling points include a class-leading wheelbase of 2800 mm, a flat rear floor structure, a triple-screen digital cockpit layout (including an HVAC touchscreen), and tech configurations such as hidden sensor door handles. In both Chinese and international markets, the vehicle targets pragmatic families and urban commuters who prioritize rear spaciousness and tech configurations.

Development History

The birth of the BAIC X7 marks that BAIC's pure fuel and hybrid passenger car development has entered a standardized platform stage. This vehicle originally stems from the "Yao" concept car design language released by BAIC. In June 2020, the first-generation Beijing X7 was officially launched in the Chinese market, offering 1.5T fuel versions and plug-in mild-hybrid versions. Its futuristic and tech-oriented appearance helped BAIC establish a new passenger car image during the initial launch.

At the 2023 Auto Shanghai, this vehicle welcomed a mid-cycle major update (All-New X7), adopting a new "Kirin Wing" frameless front grille, through-type taillights, and extending the overall vehicle length further. Entering the 2025 to 2026 stage, with the normalization of the new energy price war in China, the vehicle series simplified its product line by launching strategies like the "Enjoy Edition" (Price maintained between 119,900 to 139,900 RMB), continuing to hold the fuel large space niche market. At the same time, the vehicle's export pace accelerated significantly, achieving volume in dozens of countries including Europe (e.g., Poland, Germany), Middle East (e.g., UAE, Qatar), Africa (e.g., Egypt), and Southeast Asia (e.g., Philippines) as BAIC X7 or X75, and received a five-star safety rating in C-NCAP tests.

Market Performance

The BAIC X7 presents a structurally complementary characteristic in the global market. Against the backdrop of the Chinese fuel SUV market being squeezed by plug-in hybrids and pure EVs, the Beijing X7 maintains steady benefits in the mass-market terminal for private cars. However, in overseas high-end export markets, its premium pricing power and sales momentum are more significant. According to global industry data as of the first half of 2026, the BAIC X7 terminal price in the Middle East and North Africa markets generally converts to $28,000 to $35,000 (approximately 1.4 million to 1.6 million Egyptian Pounds in the Egyptian market). Relying on seat comfort close to luxury brands (high-spec with Zero-gravity Queen Co-pilot, three-row massage, etc.) and intelligent driving assistance (ADAS), it has become one of the export representatives of Chinese high-end boutique SUVs in multiple markets.

Core Technology

In terms of body dimensions, the mid-cycle updated BAIC X7 has length, width, and height of 4745 mm, 1892 mm, 1715 mm respectively (early version length 4710 mm), and the wheelbase reaches 2800 mm. The vehicle's curb weight is between 1610 kg and 1650 kg.

Powertrain and core transmission assembly configurations are as follows:

Engine Technology: The series is equipped with the "Magic Core" 1.5-liter inline-four cylinder turbocharged engine independently developed by BAIC (code A156T2H), which has won the "China Core" Top Ten Engines award. It adopts 350 bar high-pressure overhead direct injection and high-flow VGT variable geometry turbocharging technology, with a maximum power output of 138 kW (approximately 188 horsepower), a maximum torque stable output of 305 Nm, and thermal efficiency reaching 39.2%.

Transmission and Fuel Consumption: Matches a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT380), official WLTC combined cycle fuel consumption is about 7.3L to 7.6L per 100km, fuel tank capacity is 60 L.

Chassis Architecture: Uses a standard four-wheel independent suspension combination, namely front MacPherson independent suspension, rear multi-link independent suspension, ground clearance greater than 200 mm.

In terms of Smart Tech and Safety, the interior is equipped with a triple-screen linked interaction system composed of a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument cluster, 12.3-inch central control screen, and HVAC control screen below, high-spec models are equipped with IACC Integrated Adaptive Cruise Control, LDW Lane Departure Warning, BSD Blind Spot Detection, AEB Automatic Emergency Braking and APA Automatic Parking Assist System, achieving L2 level intelligent driving functions.

Future Plans

Combining BAIC Motor's global roadmap, the subsequent development focus of BAIC X7 pure fuel and derived hybrid platforms has fully shifted to "Overseas Regional Customization". Over the next two to three years, BAIC Motor plans to further upgrade this vehicle's multi-stage air quality system (AQS) and three-electric/Engine thermal management calibration against extreme environments such as high temperatures and high sand (e.g., Middle East and North Africa). At the same time, in response to the iteration of regulations in key overseas markets, BAIC is accelerating the integration of its latest generation of smart connected cockpit software and hardware (such as systems natively supporting international mainstream mobile connectivity ecosystems) into X7 export specification models to maintain its comprehensive competitive barriers in the overseas compact and mid-size SUV crossover fields.
