BYD e7

2026-09-25 16:30:00

Overview

The BYD e7 is an all-new fully electric D-segment sedan launched by BYD Auto on 17 May 2025. Available in three variants, official retail prices range from RM103,800 to RM115,800, alongside limited-time promotional pricing of RM98,800 to RM110,800. Positioned as an all-electric D-segment saloon, it is tailored primarily for commercial fleet/ride-hailing operators and value-conscious family buyers, going head-to-head with rivals such as the FAW Toyota bZ3 and Hongqi E-QM5.

Design Language

The BYD e7 introduces a fresh "Upward Aesthetics" design philosophy that sets it apart from the brand’s existing lineup. The front fascia features a fully enclosed panel typical of EVs, styled with trim accents to form a subtle smile-like expression; the slender, willow-leaf headlamps incorporate dual LED daytime running light strips for a sophisticated touch. Flanking air curtains on the front bumper merge with the lower intake to create an X-shaped aero duct, balancing cooling performance with aerodynamic efficiency. In profile, the car boasts a sleek fastback silhouette with a rising beltline, complemented by fixed quarter glass on the C-pillars. Around the back, it gets a "Twin Crescent Wrap-around" taillight assembly, linked by a gloss black trim piece rather than a full-width light bar. Dimensions come in at 4,780 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,515 mm tall, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase. Two exterior colours are on offer—Crystal White and Time Grey—with 205/60 R16 tyres and conventional mechanical door handles fitted as standard across the range.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed exclusively in "Mystic Black". The dashboard adopts a layered architecture, housing a three-spoke flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel and a column-mounted electronic gear selector. Driver information is displayed on a compact 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster, while infotainment duties are handled by a 10.1-inch touchscreen on the base variant, upgraded to a 15.6-inch display on mid-to-high-spec models.

Powertrain and Performance

The BYD e7 is powered exclusively by a front-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 100 kW (approx. 134 PS/134 hp) and 180 Nm of torque. Top speed is rated at 150 km/h. Battery choices comprise 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery packs, delivering CLTC-rated ranges of 450 km and 520 km, respectively. Energy consumption is rated at 11.4 kWh/100 km and 11.8 kWh/100 km, with an overall combined figure of 12.3 kWh/100 km. Via DC fast charging, a 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes 28 minutes and 26 minutes, respectively. The battery thermal management system incorporates direct refrigerant cooling for optimised heat dissipation.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the BYD e7 rides on a front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension setup. Steering is managed by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. Braking is handled by front ventilated discs and rear solid discs, paired with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) as standard. It comes in a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.

Cabin and Equipment

In terms of infotainment and connectivity, the BYD e7 runs on the advanced DiLink 100 operating system, featuring four-zone voice command recognition and 5G connectivity. Standard kit across the board includes synthetic leather upholstery, a 4-speaker audio system, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry with push-start button, remote telematics (door lock/unlock, climate control, horn and light activation), and an energy-efficient heat pump system. Higher-spec variants gain a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat with three-stage ventilation/heating, a 360-degree surround-view camera, front side airbags, front and rear curtain airbags, and an operable panoramic glass sunroof. Thanks to its generous 2,820 mm wheelbase, rear legroom is exceptionally spacious.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the safety front, all variants come standard with dual front airbags, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, Auto Brake Hold, and Hill-Start Assist (HSA). The flagship trim adds front side airbags as well as front and rear curtain airbags. For driving aids, cruise control is standard across the lineup, while top-spec variants benefit from a 360-degree surround-view monitor.

Market Performance and Reception

The BYD e7 has charted steady sales growth since its debut, with wholesale deliveries rising from 1,005 units in August 2025 to 5,213 units in November; by February 2026, wholesale figures reached 3,320 units, ranking third among Chinese-brand D-segment sedans. Media reviews have widely praised its real-world urban range efficiency, consistently exceeding a 90% achievement rate. Industry analysts regard the e7 as a dependable, highly practical workhorse for both ehailing fleets and everyday family transport. As BYD's entry into the budget-focused D-segment EV space, the e7 cements a solid, high-value proposition courtesy of its accessible RM100,000-bracket pricing, up to 520 km range, and tech-laden DiLink 100 smart cockpit.
