Chery New Energy Arrizo e

2026-09-26 05:20:03

The Arrizo e is an all-electric C-segment sedan under Chery New Energy. First introduced in 2019, it primarily targets the commercial fleet sector (e-hailing and taxis) as well as private buyers in selected quota-restricted cities. Currently on sale in its 2024 guise, it offers two CLTC range options—405 km and 455 km—focusing on no-nonsense durability, a lifetime warranty, and low running costs.

Model Overview

Positioned as a compact fully electric sedan, the model falls under the Chery New Energy stable. Key selling points include practical cabin space courtesy of a 2,670 mm wheelbase, up to 455 km of driving range, a lifetime warranty on the high-voltage EV powertrain for the first owner, and heavy-duty durability tailored for fleet operations. The 2024 lineup comprises two variants: the 405km Travel Edition (RM152,800) and the 455km Travel Edition (RM157,800). It measures 4,602 mm long with a 2,670 mm wheelbase. Chief rivals include common commercial fleet alternatives like the BYD Qin PLUS EV and BAIC EU5.

Design Language

The Arrizo e largely carries over the exterior silhouette of the petrol-powered Arrizo 5, adding EV-specific design cues. Up front, it features a closed-off grille design, doing away with the petrol variant's traditional radiator grille. A full-width gloss black strip links the headlamps together, creating a unified appearance. The front bumper is sculpted more aggressively than on the petrol model, giving it a touch more road presence. Along the sides, the profile is clean with an upswept shoulder line, exuding a functional and understated aesthetic. The rear styling remains clean and conventional without unnecessary fuss. The interior features a driver-centric wraparound layout, fitted with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and an optional 9-inch central touchscreen infotainment unit. A column-mounted electronic gear selector frees up valuable space on the centre console.

Powertrain and Range

The 2024 Arrizo e is powered across the range by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (code 112AA7), delivering 100 kW (136 PS) and 175 Nm of peak torque. Top speed is capped at 130 km/h. Power delivery is linear, serving up the typical sprightly low-speed pick-up of an EV, though higher-speed mid-range acceleration is modest.

Energy is stored in a CATL-sourced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack with a liquid cooling thermal management system. The 405km variant gets a 48.16 kWh battery pack, while the 455km variant steps up to 53.61 kWh. The rated CLTC electric driving range stands at 405 km and 455 km respectively. DC fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 30 minutes, whereas standard AC charging requires 7 to 9 hours. Combined energy consumption is rated at around 12.7 kWh/100 km. First non-commercial individual owners are entitled to a lifetime warranty on the core EV drive components (subject to official terms and conditions).

Chassis and Equipment

Underneath, the car features a front-wheel-drive layout suspended by a front MacPherson strut setup and a rear torsion beam, matching the segment standard. It rides on 205/55 R16 tyres and comes equipped with an electronic parking brake (EPB).

Kit levels are strictly back-to-basics and functional:

  • Standard: Tyre pressure monitoring warning, reverse camera, selectable drive modes (Eco/Sport), column shifter, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, faux leather upholstery, single-zone automatic climate control

  • Optional: 9-inch infotainment touchscreen (with AutoNavi GPS navigation, 4G telematics, smartphone screen mirroring), extra speakers (only 2 speakers come standard)

  • Omissions: No sunroof, no cruise control, standard halogen headlamps

Safety and Driver Assistance

In terms of active and passive safety, the entire range comes standard with dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TCS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESP). Side and curtain airbags are omitted, keeping passive safety at an entry-level baseline. On the advanced driver assistance front, it lacks Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features, settling for just a reverse camera and rear parking sensors—effectively categorising it at Level 0.

Market Performance and Consumer Feedback

The Arrizo e serves as a core model in Chery's C-segment EV portfolio, with sales heavily concentrated in commercial fleet operations. In Q1 2025, it averaged around 500 units per month in tier-one Chinese cities such as Beijing, and roughly 600 to 700 units monthly in tier-two cities like Nanjing and Wuhan. Stacked up against the BYD Qin PLUS EV and other segment leaders, its 405–455 km range and spartan equipment limit its appeal among private retail buyers.

Feedback from owners highlights its quiet cabin, responsive low-speed acceleration, and decent passenger space, although a noticeable new-car chemical odour and low-rent audio sound quality remain common pain points.

Quality complaints have clustered around several key areas:

  • HV Traction Battery Issues: Battery swelling, coolant leakage, severe range degradation, and dropping charging capacity (prominent on 2019–2022 models)

  • Charging Malfunctions: Inability to initiate charging or failure to achieve a full charge

  • Sudden Power Loss: Sudden power cuts while in motion, posing safety hazards

  • Steering Noise: Unusual knocking or rubbing sounds from the steering mechanism

These complaints are mainly concentrated on 2019–2022 batches; the 2024 model has seen far fewer reports to date, although isolated cases of battery pack damage requiring total replacement have surfaced.

On the whole, the Chery Arrizo e is a fleet-oriented, workhorse electric sedan that delivers on cabin practicality, low running costs, and the peace of mind of a lifetime EV powertrain warranty. That said, its entry-level equipment list, below-average range for the segment, absence of active safety tech, and weak appeal among private buyers hold it back from mainstream showroom success. It remains best suited for fleet procurement such as e-hailing and taxi operators, or budget-conscious buyers seeking fuss-free point-to-point electric motoring. Individual buyers should look at the 2024 455km variant for the extra range headroom, while fleet operators will find the 405km version more financially sensible.
