Model Overview

The EXEED Zhuifeng C-DM is a C-segment plug-in hybrid SUV from Chery’s premium sub-brand, EXEED, with its petrol-powered predecessor originally badged as the "EXEED LX". Officially launched on 20 June 2025, the model is offered across three variants, priced between RM129,800 and RM149,800. Serving as the latest showcase of "Technical Chery" in the new energy vehicle (NEV) arena, the Zhuifeng C-DM is powered by Chery's in-house developed C-DM plug-in hybrid powertrain, targeting family buyers seeking a high-value hybrid SUV with low fuel consumption and punchy performance. At launch, the brand rolled out an ownership package that includes a lifetime whole-vehicle warranty for the first owner, lifetime free roadside assistance, lifetime free basic internet data, and a complimentary home wallbox charger with free installation.

Design Language

On the exterior front, the Zhuifeng C-DM inherits the signature design DNA of the EXEED Zhuifeng (formerly EXEED LX), enhanced with bespoke electrified styling touches. Up front, it sports a frameless parametric front grille seamlessly paired with full-width LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and quad-element matrix LED headlights on each side, giving it a futuristic and youthful aesthetic. The side profile carries sleek, muscular contours, complemented by dual-tone alloy wheels, while the rear gets a full-width LED light bar and twin dual-exhaust tailpipes with rectangular finishers to accentuate its sporty stance. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,538 mm in length, 1,848 mm in width, and 1,699 mm in height, with a 2,670 mm wheelbase—placing it squarely in the standard C-segment SUV footprint. Inside, the Zhuifeng C-DM boasts a high-tech cockpit highlighted by a 24.6-inch floating dual-curved screen setup, accompanied by a flat-bottom multi-function leather steering wheel and an electronic gear selector, delivering a clean, minimalist, and forward-looking cabin vibe.

Powertrain & Performance

The plug-in hybrid powertrain stands as the model’s headline feature. Under the bonnet, the Zhuifeng C-DM combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid-dedicated petrol engine with an electric drive motor, delivering a formidable combined output of 240 kW and a peak torque of 545 Nm. The 1.5T mill operates on the Miller cycle, boasting an exceptional thermal efficiency of 44.5%, reflecting Chery’s deep technical prowess in internal combustion engine development. Power is transferred seamlessly via a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) capable of simulating 9 driving speeds. Energy is stored in a 19.27 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, providing a WLTC-rated pure electric range of 80 km and a total combined range of over 1,000 km. Thanks to DC fast charging support of up to 29 kW, a 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) top-up takes just 25 minutes. Under WLTC testing cycles, its combined fuel consumption is rated at an impressive 1.8 L/100 km, underscoring its remarkable fuel efficiency.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the Zhuifeng C-DM adopts a benchmark suspension configuration for compact SUVs, featuring an independent front MacPherson strut setup and a multi-link independent rear suspension. Compared to torsion beam setups, the multi-link rear axle provides superior road-bump absorption and high-speed stability. Stopping power comes from front ventilated discs and rear solid discs, managed by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold. The overall chassis is comfort-biased, effectively ironing out minor road undulations while providing a composed, solid ride quality. However, spirited cornering will induce noticeable body roll due to the softer suspension tuning. All in all, the well-sorted chassis delivers a pliant and refined ride tailored for daily urban driving.

Cabin & Equipment

Cabin technology is another major selling point for the Zhuifeng C-DM. On the hardware front, the entire range comes standard with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 flagship chipset powering the 24.6-inch floating dual curved display, ensuring snappy response and ultra-smooth interface operation. On the software side, it runs the Lion 5.0 operating system with Apple CarPlay and HiCar smartphone integration support. Higher-spec variants also add conveniences like a 50W wireless smartphone fast charging pad and touch-capacitive climate controls. The cabin is upholstered in leatherette or genuine leather with supportive, ergonomic cushioning, and rear-seat legroom is competitive in its class to comfortably accommodate family duties. The luggage compartment offers a flat loading bay with 60:40 split-folding rear seats for extended cargo utility.

Safety & Driver Assistance

In terms of active safety and autonomous capabilities, the Zhuifeng C-DM features a comprehensive Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite. With over twenty safety and assistance features integrated, the package includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Full-Speed Range, Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), a 360-degree HD surround-view camera, and Fully Automatic Parking Assist (FAPA), significantly boosting everyday safety and driving ease. Passive safety is equally well-catered for, thanks to a high-tensile safety cage structure and a full complement of airbags.

Market Outlook & Verdict

With its efficient plug-in hybrid drivetrain, potent total power output, tech-laden cockpit, and comprehensive Level 2.5 ADAS suite, the EXEED Zhuifeng C-DM presents a compelling value proposition in the competitive RM120,000 to RM150,000 compact PHEV SUV segment. It faces stiff competition from established rivals such as the BYD Song Pro DM-i and Haval H6 DHT-PHEV. Nonetheless, the Zhuifeng C-DM gains an edge with its class-leading performance figures (240 kW / 545 Nm) and reassuring after-sales perks like the original owner's lifetime warranty. Given its recent market arrival, long-term sales figures remain to be seen. Its ICE-powered predecessor, the EXEED LX, was well-regarded by automotive media for its refined chassis balance, punchy 1.6T engine, and generous equipment, despite grappling with early hurdles such as modest brand recognition, limited dealership touchpoints, and occasional infotainment software glitches. In summary, the Zhuifeng C-DM stands as a testament to Chery's engineering-first pedigree—offering substance, performance, and refinement for hybrid buyers, even as the brand continues to strengthen its network presence and market awareness.
