Geely Xingyue L

2026-09-26 16:00:22

The Geely Xingyue L is Geely's flagship offering positioned right at the intersection of the compact and mid-size SUV segments, serving as the definitive cornerstone of the brand's premium "China Star" lineup. In overseas export markets, it is badged as the Geely Monjaro, making major inroads into high-yield markets across the Middle East, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe. As a pioneering model that introduced the "large five-seater SUV" concept while offering the Drive-E 2.0TD powertrain and the CMA platform as standard across the range, the Xingyue L has established itself as a benchmark for high-quality Chinese petrol and petrol-electric hybrid SUVs, courtesy of its segment-busting dimensions and refined mechanical underpinnings.

Model Overview

The core philosophy of the Geely Xingyue L centres on leveraging mid-size SUV proportions to disrupt and capture market share from traditional A+-segment compact SUVs. Domestically, it takes the fight directly to established joint-venture models like the Volkswagen Tiguan L, Buick Envision Plus, and Honda CR-V, while globally going toe-to-toe against mainstream stalwarts such as the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Santa Fe with its compelling value proposition.

The model is built on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform co-developed with Volvo in Europe. Key selling points include a standard Volvo-derived 2.0TD engine across the range, an IMAX panoramic triple-screen setup powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and the newly updated Flyme Auto smart infotainment system. With the introduction of the "Dongfang Yao" aesthetic package and the "i-HEV Zhiqing" petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, the Xingyue L delivers a generous 2,845 mm wheelbase and the BorgWarner 6th-generation intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system within the accessible RM130,000 to RM180,000 price bracket (around USD35,000 to USD40,000 overseas), firmly setting a high benchmark for price-to-performance in the mid-to-high-end family SUV market.

Development History

The journey of the Xingyue L encapsulates Geely's strategic transformation from a volume-focused carmaker into an architecture-driven, premium intelligent brand:

Debut of the "SUV Disruptor" (2021–2022): In July 2021, the Geely Xingyue L made its official debut. Billed as a game-changer designed to rewrite conventional benchmarks in cabin space, smart tech, and performance, the SUV swiftly disrupted the joint-venture dominance with its competitive pricing and standard 2.0T engine paired with either an Aisin 8-speed automatic (8AT) or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT).

Thor Hybrid Introduction and Global Expansion (2023–2024): The lineup expanded with the Thor Hi·F petrol-electric hybrid variant, later refined into the Xingyue L Zhiqing, bringing the mid-size SUV's fuel consumption down to an impressive 4.79 L/100 km. Concurrently, export variants badged as the Geely Monjaro achieved strong commercial traction in GCC markets such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, consistently ranking as the best-selling premium Chinese SUV in the region.

"Dongfang Yao" AI Cockpit and Deep Hybrid Evolution (Latest Generation): Entering its latest strategic phase, the lineup evolved into the "Xingyue L Dongfang Yao" series, featuring a redesigned "Galaxy Surge" vertical waterfall chrome grille. The interior received a full overhaul with the adoption of the advanced Flyme Auto operating system. To cater to extreme climates and challenging terrains in export markets, Geely further refined the all-weather liquid-cooled battery system and the six-mode all-terrain AWD mapping, cementing the model's status as the flagship anchor of Geely's global petrol and hybrid portfolio.

Market Performance

The Geely Xingyue L continues to command strong demand across both the compact and mid-size SUV segments, consistently clocking monthly sales between 15,000 and 20,000 units. It precisely appeals to urban middle-class families seeking European-grade mechanical refinement, robust crash safety, modern multi-screen digital connectivity, and generous rear-seat legroom in a spacious five-seater layout. Internationally, the Geely Monjaro is widely lauded as a "Nordic-engineered luxury SUV with cutting-edge Chinese tech," significantly elevating brand perception while commanding solid residual values and strong customer satisfaction.

Core Technologies

In terms of dimensions, the Xingyue L adopts a "class-above" sizing strategy. Measuring 4,795 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,689 mm in height, with a wheelbase stretching to 2,845 mm, it easily straddles the territory of full-fledged mid-size SUVs despite being nominally marketed in the compact bracket.

Its powertrain options, digital cockpit, and active/passive safety suites comprise the following:

Drive-E High-Output Powertrain and Intelligent AWD (2.0TD Petrol / Zhiqing Hybrid):

High-Output 2.0TD (High-Spec Petrol): Delivers a maximum output of 175 kW (238 PS) and 350 Nm of torque, paired with an Aisin 8-speed automatic transmission (8AT) and BorgWarner's 6th-generation intelligent AWD system, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds with confident traction on loose and slippery surfaces.

Mid-Output 2.0TD (Entry Petrol): Produces 160 kW (218 PS) and 325 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) driving the front wheels.

i-HEV Zhiqing Hybrid System: Powered by a dedicated 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid petrol engine delivering a combined system output of 299 PS and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (3DHT). It accomplishes the 0–100 km/h sprint in 7.5 seconds, while offering an overall cruising range easily exceeding 1,000 km.

IMAX Panoramic Triple Screen and Flyme Auto Smart Cockpit:

One-Metre Digital Display Array: The dashboard integrates a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch front-passenger entertainment display into a seamless one-metre IMAX triple-screen panel, augmented by a large-format augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD).

Unified Software-Hardware Ecosystem: Transitioning to the full Flyme Auto ecosystem driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, the system supports seamless four-zone continuous voice commands. Premium appointments include an optional 12-speaker Infinity high-fidelity surround sound system, alongside front seats equipped with three-stage ventilation, heating, and eight-point massage functions.

79% High-Rigidity Body Structure and Level 2 ADAS:

High-Strength Steel-Aluminium Body-in-White: High-strength steel and aluminium alloys constitute 79% of the vehicle's body structure, with roof crush resistance capable of supporting 5.2 times the vehicle's kerb weight, earning a full five-star C-NCAP safety rating.

540° Panoramic Vision and ADAS: The lineup features a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) driven by 24 onboard sensors, incorporating Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). A standard 540-degree HD panoramic camera system with a 180-degree transparent chassis function eliminates blind spots around the vehicle's substantial footprint.

Future Plans

As Geely continues to integrate its global "Galaxy" technologies and generative AI models, the future roadmap for the Xingyue L (Geely Monjaro) platform will focus on rolling out localized multilingual versions of the Flyme Auto system, continuously refining ADAS perception algorithms via over-the-air (OTA) updates, and further optimizing hybrid energy management. Geely aims to build on the established engineering benchmarks of the Xingyue L to deliver competitive, premium five-seater flagship mobility solutions across global markets.
