The AITO M8 is a full-size flagship SUV under the HIMA brand, jointly developed by SERES Auto and Huawei, positioned as a "smart family flagship SUV". The vehicle officially made its market debut on 16 April 2025 at the HIMA product launch event, offering both range-extender (EREV) and pure electric (BEV) powertrains alongside five-seater and six-seater seating layouts. On 23 March 2026, the updated AITO M8 was officially launched with prices starting from RM359,800. According to the latest data in April 2026, the AITO M8 lineup comprises six variants priced between RM309,800 and RM429,800 — the EREV RWD Max at RM309,800, EREV AWD Max at RM339,800, and EREV AWD Ultra at RM369,800; alongside the EV RWD Max at RM329,800, EV AWD Max at RM359,800, and EV AWD Ultra at RM429,800. All variants feature LiDAR and Huawei's advanced intelligent driving system as standard equipment. Within its first year on the market, cumulative deliveries surpassed 170,000 units, cementing its status as a sales benchmark in the RM400,000-class SUV segment.

Design Language

The AITO M8 embraces the "Kunpeng Yuejing" design philosophy, staying true to the AITO brand's sleek and imposing flagship aesthetics. Up front, a closed-off grille is flanked by a full-width light bar and "Tianjing Huanyu" integrated headlamp clusters, seamlessly housing chrome accents, daytime running lights (DRLs), high/low beam projectors, and interactive lighting functions. Its side profile boasts clean, elongated lines, complemented by semi-flush door handles, floating wing mirrors, and integrated roof rails, while the flat roofline maximises interior headroom. Around the back, the SUV features ISD intelligent interactive tail lamps and a hands-free powered tailgate with kick sensor. Dimensionally, it measures 5,190 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height, with a 3,105 mm wheelbase. Exterior paint options include four standard finishes — Gilded Black, Warm Cloud White, Interstellar Blue, and Muye Green — alongside two optional shades: Galaxy and Glowing Twilight. Inside, the dual-wrap-around symmetrical cabin is available in two standard interior themes (Baisha Apricot and Chicha Orange) and two optional colourways (Amber Brown and Nebula Red). Generous use of Nappa leather, microfibre suede headlining, and genuine wood veneer trims elevates the cabin's premium ambience.

Powertrain & Performance

The AITO M8 is offered with a choice of range-extended (EREV) and all-electric (BEV) powertrains. The EREV variant pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged range extender (generating 118 kW) with the HUAWEI DriveONE intelligent electric drive system. Dual electric motors at the front and rear churn out 165 kW and 227 kW respectively, delivering a combined output of 365 kW. Two battery options are available: a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack and a 53.4 kWh ternary lithium battery, yielding CLTC electric-only ranges of 201 km and 310 km respectively, and a total combined CLTC range of up to 1,526 km on a full tank and charge. Fuel consumption on a depleted battery is rated at 6.6 L/100 km (WLTC cycle), while the century sprint from 0-100 km/h is dispatched in 5.2 seconds. The fully electric version is built on an 800V high-voltage architecture, available in single-motor rear-wheel drive (220 kW) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (365 kW) setups, delivering CLTC ranges of 670 km and 630 km respectively. The EV Long Range variant achieves up to 705 km of CLTC range, with a 30% to 80% DC fast charge taking just 15 minutes. Additionally, the EREV powertrain is engineered to handle extreme cold starts down to -40°C.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the AITO M8 rides on an enhanced four-ball-joint double-wishbone front suspension setup paired with a five-link independent rear axle. A closed dual-chamber air suspension system (with five-stage ride height adjustment) and Continuous Damping Control (CDC) adaptive dampers are standard across the entire range. The chassis features an intelligent road preview system that scans road surfaces ahead to proactively fine-tune damper settings. Tuned to deliver a plush ride without compromising dynamic body control, the SUV handles high-speed cornering with confidence and composure. The air suspension provides up to 80 mm of ride height travel, complemented by four-wheel disc brakes and an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) as standard across the line-up.

Cockpit & Equipment

Inside, the AITO M8 runs on the HarmonyOS 4.0 smart cockpit operating system (upgraded to HarmonyOS Cockpit 5.0 on select variants). The dash is dominated by a panoramic triple-screen array comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 16-inch front passenger entertainment display, augmented by an AR-HUD head-up display projecting a 68-inch equivalent view 8.5 metres ahead. Powering the infotainment is the Kirin 990A chipset. Acoustics are handled by a 19-speaker HUAWEI SOUND system, which includes two speakers embedded in the driver's headrest. Rear passengers benefit from a 32-inch retractable projection screen with a one-touch cinema mode. Standard kit across the range includes an onboard compressor-based hot/cold box (7.3 L, 0–50°C) and 64-colour ambient lighting, while the flagship Ultra trim adds powered soft-close doors and million-pixel projection headlights. In six-seater guise, the second-row seats feature Zero Gravity Seats 3.0, equipped with heating, ventilation, 10-point massage, and a 121° zero-pressure recline. The cabin also incorporates Harmony ALPS purification technology for vehicle-wide formaldehyde and benzene removal, certified to the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 Class I eco-interior rating. Boot capacity for the five-seater model stands at 976 litres, expandable to 2,350 litres with the rear seats folded, while the six-seater offers 353 litres expanding to 1,284 litres. In total, there are 41 practical storage compartments scattered across the cabin.

Safety & Intelligent Driving

Safety is a key highlight of the AITO M8; on 28 May 2026, it achieved an all-round top rating in the C-IASI crash tests, becoming the first RM400,000-class SUV to secure "G+" (Good+) scores across all three core evaluation pillars: Occupant Safety, Pedestrian Safety, and Vehicle Safety Assist; it also earned the coveted "Super Five-Star" safety rating under C-NCAP (2024 Edition). Its body structure adopts an "eight-horizontal, five-vertical" high-rigidity cage design, featuring 2,000 MPa submarine-grade hot-stamped steel in 12 critical structural points, with aluminium alloy, hot-stamped steel, and high-strength steel making up 81% of the body-in-white. Nine airbags come standard throughout the cabin, including a 2.8-metre extended curtain airbag providing coverage across all three rows. The battery pack features 15 layers of structural protection and boasts an IPX9K waterproof rating.

For driver assistance, all variants come standard with the Huawei Qiankun ADS system (ADS 4 / ADS 4.1 on select variants). The perception suite includes one roof-mounted 192-line LiDAR, one high-precision solid-state LiDAR, three distributed 4D millimetre-wave radars, two 4D millimetre-wave corner radars, 11 high-definition cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The 2026 model steps things up with the world's highest-resolution production-grade 896-line dual-optical-path LiDAR, extending detection distance up to 162 metres. Key ADAS capabilities include Highway Navigation Cruise Assist (Highway NOA), Urban Navigation Cruise Assist (Urban NCA), and all-scenario automated parking. The Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system detects both moving and static pedestrians, vehicles, two-wheelers, and smaller road hazards such as traffic cones and water barriers; crosswind stabilisation, Driver Monitoring System (DMS), and driver incapacitation assist are also included.
