The JAC Aipao is an all-electric C-segment sedan launched under Yiwei, a proprietary new energy vehicle (NEV) marque by JAC Group (formerly JAC Motors). The car initially debuted on the market as the "Sehol Aipao" before being officially absorbed into the Yiwei brand portfolio in 2024 following a brand restructuring exercise. First launched in July 2022, the model was initially offered across three variants with prices ranging from RM139,900 to RM159,900. Following multiple model year updates, the 2025 Aipao line-up offers three variants priced between RM152,900 and RM189,900. Dimension-wise, the saloon measures 4,770 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,510 mm in height, riding on a 2,760 mm wheelbase. Positioned in the C-segment EV family sedan market, it primarily targets the e-hailing (Mobility Edition) and corporate/government fleet sectors, offering variants such as the Mobility Edition, Exclusive Edition, and Official Edition. Its key rivals include the BYD Qin PLUS EV and Geometry A.
In terms of exterior styling, the JAC Aipao carries over the fastback silhouette of the petrol-powered Jiayue A5 while incorporating bespoke design cues tailored for an electric vehicle. Up front, it features the closed-off grille typical of modern EVs, subtly embellished with a honeycomb-textured pattern, alongside a restyled and streamlined front bumper. In profile, a sloping fastback roofline blends into a sharp character line spanning the flanks to create a dynamic, four-door coupé stance, which is complemented by multi-spoke alloy wheels that elevate its sporty appeal. The rear end receives subtle revisions around the taillight clusters and lower rear valance to sharpen its overall aesthetics. For exterior colours, mainstream paint options including Pearl White are available.
Stepping inside, the Aipao adopts a clean, functional T-shaped dashboard layout. The centre console is dominated by a portrait-oriented 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display, while range-topping variants upgrade to a dual-screen cockpit comprising a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster and the 10.4-inch central touchscreen. For the driver's display, lower-spec models feature a 7-inch semi-digital cluster, while top-tier variants benefit from the 10.25-inch fully digital unit. The cabin features a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a clean, contemporary black interior palette finished with soft-touch slush-moulded surfaces.
Across the range, the JAC Aipao is powered by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor in a single-motor front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration. Having undergone multiple technical iterations, current mainstream variants run a high-performance electric drive unit producing 130kW (around 177 PS) and 230N·m of peak torque, allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint in roughly 7.6 seconds. The earlier Sehol Aipao variant, by comparison, kicked out 142kW and 340N·m, clocking an identical 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.6 seconds.
For the battery setup, the Aipao is fitted with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, with cells supplied by manufacturers including Gotion High-tech. Battery capacities differ across variants: the 2024 Facelift Aipao T Exclusive Edition 460 carries a 50.1kWh pack providing a CLTC-rated range of 460km, while the 2025 Mobility Edition and Official Edition pack a 54.2kWh unit offering up to 502km on the CLTC cycle. The battery incorporates proprietary "Honeycomb Battery 2.0" technology, boasting thermal runaway prevention (zero spontaneous combustion) and long cycle life. On the charging front, AC standard charging takes approximately 7.5 hours, with selected higher-tier variants offering an optional 64.5kWh battery pack that extends the CLTC range up to 602km. Energy consumption is rated at an efficient 12kWh/100km, keeping operating costs low.
The chassis architecture stands out as one of the Aipao's primary highlights. Developed with a German engineering philosophy, the car features an all-independent setup comprising front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link suspension, giving it a tangible hardware edge over many peers in its segment. Fine-tuned by Volkswagen specialists in tandem with Magna, the chassis delivers ride quality and refinement that punch well above its class. Drive is routed to the front wheels (FWD). The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system offers light, well-weighted steering feedback, while braking duties are handled by ventilated front discs and solid rear discs, backed by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold and Electronic Stability Control (ESC/ESP) as standard. Due to the underfloor traction battery, the suspension damping is set slightly on the firmer side to counter the extra mass, effectively preserving body roll control and road feel. Drivers can toggle between Sport, Eco, and Standard/Comfort drive modes, with adjustable regenerative braking levels to suit individual driving preferences.
On the equipment front, the Aipao centres its appeal on tech-laden features and smart connectivity. The cabin comes standard with a 10.4-inch portrait-oriented HD touchscreen, while the flagship variant pairs a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster with the 10.4-inch centre screen. Infotainment is driven by the J-Link smart connectivity operating system, integrating iFlytek voice commands, Huawei Smart Assistant, and smartphone connectivity. Drivers can easily control the air conditioning, power windows, satellite navigation, and media playback via voice prompts for hands-free convenience on the move. Built-in GPS navigation, Bluetooth telephony, and telematics services are all supported.
In terms of convenience and comfort, the Aipao offers fabric or synthetic leather upholstery depending on the variant, along with a power-adjustable driver's seat (on higher trims), dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and start, and Auto Brake Hold. Standard variants come with a 4-speaker audio system. The rear bench split-folds down to expand the boot space, creating a completely flat loading area to swallow bulkier cargo. Thoughtful storage cubbies are dotted across the cabin, including a generous glovebox, door bins, and a central armrest compartment to cater to everyday practicality.
On the passive safety front, the JAC Aipao is built around a high-tensile safety cell and comes standard across the board with essential active safety systems, including an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC/ESP). Dual front airbags are standard fitment across all variants. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera (upgraded to a 360-degree surround-view camera on higher-spec variants) to ease tight parking manoeuvres. The "Honeycomb Battery 2.0" architecture delivers inherent zero-combustion thermal safety and extended longevity, addressing EV safety concerns right from the cell level.
For driver assistance, top-spec variants of the Aipao are equipped with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Powered by Huawei's intelligent driving suite and hardware such as a 77GHz millimetre-wave radar and wide-angle cameras, the suite offers a comprehensive safety net. Key features include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW). Selected variants also feature driver monitoring functions including fatigue alerts, distraction warnings, and hazardous driving behaviour detection. Furthermore, JAC collaborated directly with fleet operators to calibrate dedicated AEB algorithms and a digital smart fleet cockpit, further bolstering operational safety under heavy daily commercial use.
Since its inception, the JAC Aipao has been heavily geared towards the e-hailing and corporate fleet sectors, with fleet sales taking up the lion's share of its delivery volumes; in fact, the 2025 Mobility Edition 502 and Official Edition 502 were both tailored specifically for fleet operations. In March 2024, JAC Yiwei kicked off its "10,000-Fleet Aipao" green mobility rollout, delivering the initial batch of 1,000 units.
However, in the private retail passenger car segment, the Aipao has struggled to make significant inroads. Taking July 2025 as an example, the model registered just 74 units for the month, bringing year-to-date sales from January to July to only 1,483 units. Sales took another hit moving into 2026, dropping to a mere 2 units in March 2026 and racking up just 11 units year-to-date. While the Aipao often tops the internal sales charts for the Yiwei sub-brand, it consistently languishes beyond the 70th position in China's overall C-segment sales rankings. To clear stock and stimulate showroom footfall, dealers have resorted to hefty discounts, with retail prices in certain areas slashed from RM159,900 down to RM119,900 — a massive RM40,000 price drop.
In terms of ownership feedback, drivers generally praise the Aipao for its smooth power delivery, decent charging turnaround, and well-equipped infotainment setup that holds good ground against peers in the same price bracket. The dynamic exterior styling, refined ride delivered by the German-tuned chassis, and the commendable 502km range have also earned positive marks. On the flip side, the main criticisms lie in JAC's relatively weak brand presence and market pull, which hold back private buyer confidence; several owners have also reported build quality niggles such as rear wheel bearing noises and uneven tyre wear; while the extensive use of hard plastics across certain cabin areas leaves room for improvement compared to competitors with plusher interiors.
On the whole, the JAC Aipao stands as a balanced C-segment electric sedan with notable strengths in its German-tuned four-wheel independent suspension, strong 502km driving range, and capable Level 2 ADAS suite. Although it fits the brief well as an e-hailing workhorse and fleet vehicle, its presence in the private retail EV market remains muted, where it continues to face stiff competition from mainstream rivals such as the BYD Qin PLUS EV and Geometry A.
