JAC Hunter EV (JAC T9 EV)

2026-10-05 04:30:00

The JAC Hunter EV (known as the JAC T9 EV in overseas markets) is a high-performance, fully electric 4WD pick-up truck introduced by JAC Group's pick-up division. As a pivotal model in JAC Pick-up’s global premium strategy, the Hunter EV is built on the proven ICE platform of the standard Hunter. Through electrification, it blends the workhorse utility of a traditional pick-up with the refined quietness and instantaneous power delivery of an electric drivetrain, targeting premium electric pick-up markets both domestically and internationally.

Model Overview

Positioned as a mid-to-large-sized pure electric pick-up truck, the Hunter EV measures roughly 5,330 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width, and 1,920 mm in height, with a generous 3,110 mm wheelbase.

Design Aesthetics: The exterior carries the rugged design language signature to the Hunter family. The front end features a bold, distinctive "Ding" cauldron-inspired closed-off grille, flanked by split matrix LED headlights that exude a blend of industrial toughness and modern tech flair. Inside, the cabin delivers an ambiance on par with premium passenger pick-ups, shedding the utilitarian, bare-bones stereotype through extensive soft-touch padding and intricate contrast stitching.

Product Positioning: Primarily targeting private buyers, commercial fleet applications, and high-end export markets, the Hunter EV easily caters to off-road expeditions and long-distance cross-country touring, while remaining practical for daily urban commutes as a bona fide lifestyle pick-up.

Powertrain Architecture: Driven by a dual-motor 4WD setup, it delivers commanding performance. The truck packs a high-capacity Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack with support for high-output DC fast charging and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse power supply, turning it into a massive mobile power bank for outdoor activities.

Development History

The inception of the Hunter EV epitomises JAC Pick-up's full-scale transition towards electrification.

R&D and Debut (2024): In June 2024, the Hunter EV made its premiere at the Greater Bay Area Auto Show as China's first all-electric 4WD pick-up truck, with its technical benchmarks drawing substantial industry interest. It soon made appearances on international stages such as the Frankfurt Motor Show, demonstrating JAC Pick-up's global aspirations.

Market Rollout (2025): In August 2025, the Hunter EV went on sale domestically with prices starting from RM199,800, defining its stance as an upmarket electric pick-up. In the same year, pre-orders and validation trials were rolled out across several global markets, including Australia, Europe, and Latin America.

Current Status (2026): Moving into 2026, the Hunter EV has entered its full global expansion phase. Alongside solid domestic sales, it has become the spearhead of JAC Pick-up’s export lineup through steady international market presence. The 2026 model brings further refinements to its electronic management systems and chassis setup, noticeably boosting real-world range efficiency and cold-weather resilience.

Market Performance

Market Standing: In its domestic market, the Hunter EV is positioned as a "premium intelligent all-electric pick-up" in a relatively uncontested niche, going toe-to-toe with high-performance ICE pick-ups and new pure electric rivals. Overseas, thanks to its compelling blend of competitive value, robust towing capacity, and EV convenience, it quickly carved out a strong reputation across Australia and Central Asia.

Owner Feedback: Buyers have widely praised its ample power reserves (such as a 0-100 km/h sprint in around 8.5 seconds) and the sheer utility of the V2L function for outdoor worksites and camping. Its refined, near-silent ride is frequently credited with significantly elevating long-distance cruising comfort, earning it high praise as the "SUV of pick-ups".

Core Technologies

Dual-Motor 4WD System: The Hunter EV employs a front-and-rear dual-motor configuration to deliver electric all-wheel drive with real-time dynamic torque vectoring. This architecture responds far quicker and more precisely than conventional mechanical 4WD drivetrains, drastically improving off-road traction and recovery across challenging terrains like sand and snow.

EV Powertrain and Battery Safety: Equipped with an LFP battery pack from CATL, the system boasts an IP68 dust- and water-resistance rating and is purpose-built to withstand severe conditions, including freezing temperatures and high humidity. It also features an intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) to preserve battery health over its entire lifespan.

Intelligent Cockpit: The cabin is powered by the "Zhiling 3.0" infotainment system, complete with voice control, Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates, and dual-mode navigation. Driver assistance features include a 360-degree surround-view camera system and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, making piloting this large pick-up notably effortless.

Future Plans

As of 2026, JAC Pick-up’s core focus for the Hunter EV centres on "deepened globalisation and continuous performance upgrades". The brand plans to further fine-tune regenerative braking logic and chassis dynamic algorithms via upcoming OTA updates. Moving ahead, JAC will persist in advancing its electric pick-up technology, leveraging its global light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales network to introduce the Hunter EV into more markets. At the same time, it is evaluating the feasibility of next-gen energy solutions, such as solid-state batteries, to sharpen the vehicle’s competitive edge on the global stage.
