JAC Yiwei 3

2026-09-25 11:40:03

The JAC Yiwei 3 is the inaugural smart all-electric A-segment passenger car rolled out by JAC Yiwei, a dedicated new energy vehicle (NEV) sub-brand under JAC Group. Serving as a crucial strategic offering developed from JAC Group's extensive R&D in the NEV sector, the Yiwei 3 is underpinned by the second-generation DI dedicated EV platform, tailored for urban runabouts and quality family daily commutes. Sporting a "Bubble Universe Aesthetics" styling ethos alongside enhanced safety, cabin packaging, and range credentials, the model aims to carve out a differentiated edge in the RM100,000-bracket pure EV market.

Model Overview

Positioned as a pure electric compact car (A-segment sedan), the Yiwei 3 serves as the flagship representative in JAC's electrification transition phase.

Market Highlights: Smart all-electric, high-integration electric drive, honeycomb battery technology, and Bubble Universe Aesthetics.

Design & Dimensions: Measuring 4,025 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,560 mm tall with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the exterior incorporates rounded "bubble" design elements alongside oval headlamps and a closed front grille, exuding a youthful and approachable visual character. The cabin adopts a minimalist floating layout, prioritising ergonomic human-machine interaction (HMI) and interior space utilisation.

Product Core: At the heart of this model is its highly integrated "9-in-1 super electric drive" powertrain and unique bionic cylindrical cell structure (honeycomb battery). This compact packaging maximises cabin space, delivering one of the roomiest interior layouts in its class.

Development History

Brand Origins: In 2023, JAC Group officially debuted its dedicated NEV marque, JAC Yiwei, marking the spin-off of its electric passenger vehicle operations into an independent business unit. As the brand's maiden production model built on the DI platform, the Yiwei 3 embodies JAC Group’s 17 years of EV technical expertise and nearly six decades of vehicle manufacturing heritage.

Market Milestones:

Launch & Market Debut (2023): The Yiwei 3 was officially launched in June 2023. Gaining early traction thanks to prominent marketing around its high powertrain integration and safety benchmarks, the line-up was swiftly expanded with multiple variants to cater to diverse driving range requirements.

Global Expansion (2024): Conceived as a global model, the Yiwei 3 ventured into export markets, including the Middle East and the UAE (badged locally as the E30X). Featuring localised chassis and climatic calibrations to suit overseas regulations and operating environments, the model became a crucial pillar in JAC Group’s export drive.

Current Landscape (2026): Amid intensifying competition across the NEV landscape, the Yiwei 3 has entered the market consolidation phase of its product lifecycle. Navigating an aggressive pricing environment, the model shifted its retail strategy from conventional volume sales to dealer inventory optimisation, as brand focus increasingly pivoted towards next-generation modular EV platforms.

Market Performance

Competitive Landscape: In the pure electric A-segment passenger car arena, the Yiwei 3 faces direct competition from established rivals such as the BYD Dolphin and ORA Good Cat. While it built an initial reputation through its proprietary honeycomb battery safety technology, fierce competition for market share put significant pressure on showroom sales in later stages, prompting heavy dealer discounts in selected regions to clear stocks.

User Feedback: Owners consistently praise its nimble 4.95-metre turning radius and commendable cabin NVH insulation. As an urban commuter car, its integrated full-domain thermal management system and reliable cold-weather range performance have drawn positive reviews in colder climates. However, user sentiment remains mixed regarding brand recognition and the long-term software update frequency of the infotainment system.

Core Technologies

DI Platform & Powertrain Packaging: Built upon the DI dedicated electric architecture, the Yiwei 3's "9-in-1" electric drive unit consolidates high-voltage components into a compact module, drastically downsizing front bay space to liberate more passenger cabin room.

Honeycomb Battery Technology: Utilising cylindrical cells arranged in a bionic honeycomb structure, this pack integrates thermal barrier, electrical isolation, and thermoelectric decoupling technologies. Having demonstrated exceptional safety across multiple rigorous thermal runaway tests, it aims to eliminate consumer anxiety surrounding EV battery fires.

Thermal Management System: Co-developed with Midea, the vehicle's "central air conditioning" setup harmonises heat dissipation from the drive motor, battery pack, and cabin climate control. This full-domain thermal management significantly improves energy efficiency and real-world range retention in extreme ambient temperatures.

Smart Infotainment & Connectivity: Running on Yiwei OS—co-developed with Huawei and iFLYTEK—the system supports four-zone voice command recognition and customisable smart scene presets. Paired with a 540° surround-view camera system and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), it delivers a solid suite of digital amenities expected in this segment.

Future Plans

As of 2026, the strategic adjustments for the Yiwei 3 encompass:

Retail Channel Realignment: JAC Group continues to streamline its NEV sales network, carrying out stock clearance and inventory realignment for existing models like the Yiwei 3 to alleviate dealership holding pressure.

Deeper Overseas Penetration: Leveraging established export footholds, the Yiwei 3 will remain a core export product for JAC, focusing on untapped high-growth markets across the Middle East and Latin America to extend its product lifecycle.

Platform Technology Legacy: The powertrain integration breakthroughs and battery safety data accumulated from the Yiwei 3's DI platform now serve as foundational building blocks for JAC Group's next-generation smart electric SUVs and coupe models.
