Lingbao Auto Uni

2026-10-01 13:30:01

The Lingbao Uni is the third all-electric micro car launched by Lingbao Auto under Jiangsu Jimai New Energy. First introduced in May 2022 and positioned below the Lingbao BOX, the 2025 model debuted in December 2024, highlighting an entry price starting from RM34,800 and a rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout, making it one of the most accessible models in the micro EV segment.

Model Overview

Positioned as an A00-segment fully electric hatchback, the brand comes under Jimai New Energy (Jinpeng's cross-industry EV venture). Core selling points include an ultra-low starting price of RM34,800, a 3-door, 4-seater layout, and a rear-wheel-drive powertrain. The 2025 model is available in the Weitian variant (RM34,800) and a high-spec variant (RM41,800), among others. In terms of dimensions, it measures 2,930 mm long, 1,517 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall with a wheelbase of 1,940 mm and a boot capacity of 70 litres. Primary rivals include the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV, Changan Lumin, and Geely Panda.

Design Language

Up front, it features a closed-off grille with an internal diamond mesh pattern for added depth, paired with C-shaped LED daytime running light strips integrated into the halogen headlamps to create a distinctive lighting signature. The side profile sports clean body lines paired with 12-inch steel wheels, while the rear gets rectangular tail lights and a prominent roof spoiler. Exterior colour options include Deep in the Clouds, Wizard of Oz, Cool Hipster, and Galaxy Grey.

Inside, the cabin features a dual-tone blue-and-white colour scheme anchored by a 7-inch LCD instrument cluster. Low-to-mid-spec variants omit a central infotainment screen, though a touchscreen is available as an option on higher-spec models. Standard equipment includes fabric seats, a urethane steering wheel, and a rotary gear selector, with 50:50 split-folding rear seats.

Powertrain and Range

The entire line-up is powered by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor delivering a maximum output of 20 kW (27 hp) and 85 Nm of peak torque, with a top speed of 100 km/h. Utilising a rear-motor, RWD setup, it completes the 0–50 km/h sprint in roughly 8 seconds.

For the battery, it is equipped with either an 11.52 kWh or a 15.97 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack sourced from CALB, providing a CLTC-rated range of 121 km and 201 km respectively. The entire range does not support DC fast charging, and AC slow charging takes between 8 and 9 hours. Power consumption is rated at around 9.7 kWh per 100 km, backed by a 3-year/100,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/120,000 km battery pack warranty.

Chassis and Equipment

The chassis setup consists of front MacPherson independent struts and a rear rigid axle non-independent suspension, paired with front disc and rear drum brakes, a mechanical handbrake, and Electric Power Steering (EPS).

In terms of equipment, standard kit across the board includes a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, a reverse camera, Hill-Start Assist, and drive mode selection.

Severe lack of safety features: The entire range comes without driver or front passenger airbags, while active safety systems such as Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Brake Assist, and Traction Control are completely absent. Compared to the similarly priced Wuling Hongguang MINIEV (which offers an optional driver airbag), its passive safety equipment is bottom-of-the-barrel.

Market Performance

The Lingbao Uni's market performance remains sluggish. In October 2025, it registered only 112 units, with full-year 2025 cumulative sales standing at around 1,844 units, placing it near the bottom of the micro EV segment. By comparison, the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV achieved monthly sales of around 34,000 units, while the Geely Panda exceeded 15,000 units monthly over the same period. The Uni makes up about 20% of Lingbao's internal sales volume, with the brand's overall monthly deliveries hovering at only around 500 units.

Verdict

The Lingbao Uni is an entry-level urban commuter that relies heavily on its rock-bottom price tag, but suffers from critical safety omissions. The complete lack of airbags across the range is its biggest dealbreaker; compounded by no DC fast charging, a short 121 km base range, and weak brand presence, its competitiveness in the RM30,000 to RM50,000 bracket is severely compromised. Its sole redeeming factors are the RWD layout and the RM34,800 starting price, but these cannot offset the lack of safety kit. At this price point, alternatives like the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV or Changan Lumin with a standard driver airbag are far more recommendable, offering a noticeably better safety baseline.

Target audience: Buyers who are completely unconcerned about safety, on an extremely tight budget, and only require short-distance transport in enclosed, low-speed areas. For family use or everyday road driving, it is not recommended.
