2026-10-03 11:00:00

Model Overview

The Lynk & Co 09 EM-P is the marque's flagship mid-to-large plug-in hybrid SUV, built on Volvo's SPA luxury vehicle architecture and billed as a "luxury intelligent flagship SUV." As a strategic model aimed at elevating the Lynk & Co brand, it first debuted in October 2022 as the "Voyage Edition." Following several iterations, the refreshed Lynk & Co 09 EM-P was launched in January 2024. As of May 2026, the current line-up comprises the 2025 model and the 2026 AWD Max 5-seater variant, offering a choice of five-, six-, and seven-seat configurations across the range.

In March 2026, the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P AWD Max 5-seater was officially launched with an official retail price of RM275,800 and a limited-time promotional price starting from RM235,800. Customers placing a booking before June 30 are also entitled to comprehensive purchase perks worth up to RM60,000. Positioned in the RM300,000 segment, the SUV directly takes on popular new-energy rivals like the Li Auto L8, Li Auto L7, and AITO M7, setting itself apart with "dual-chamber air suspension, potent hybrid performance, and uncompromising safety."

Design Language

The Lynk & Co 09 EM-P carries over the brand’s latest "Mega-city Contrast" design philosophy, blending executive luxury with athletic undertones. Up front, it sports the signature vertical waterfall grille in a full piano-black finish, accented with subtle dark-gold trim strips and flanked by the brand’s iconic split-LED headlamp assemblies for a commanding presence. In profile, sculpted character lines create a sleek, aerodynamic silhouette, complemented by full-width LED taillights and hidden exhaust tips, while a gloss-black rear diffuser adds a touch of sportiness. A new "Pine Green" exterior colour was also introduced for the 2024 model year.

Dimension-wise, the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P measures 5,042 mm long, 1,977 mm wide, and 1,780 mm tall, with a generous 2,984 mm wheelbase. Standard lighting across the range includes full-LED headlamps, Adaptive High Beam (AHB), and follow-me-home delay lighting to enhance night-time driving safety.

Inside, the cabin adopts a "Panoramic Island" cockpit design, featuring a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, a 15.4-inch floating 2.5K ultra-clear infotainment touchscreen, and a 12.8-inch full-colour W-HUD head-up display. The dashboard is lavishly trimmed in genuine leather, while the front passenger sun visor can be optioned with an integrated 12.3-inch ceiling-mounted screen that serves as a sunshade, vanity mirror, and entertainment display. The leather-wrapped steering wheel boasts a clean, contemporary design.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the skin, the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain pairing a Drive-E 2.0TD high-output turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors, delivering a combined system output of 408 kW (approx. 555 PS) and 844 Nm of peak torque. Channelling drive via a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), it completes the 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 239 km/h. An electric all-wheel-drive (e-AWD) system comes standard across the entire range.

Energy is supplied by a 40.1 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack from CATL, delivering a pure electric range of 190 km (CLTC) or 160 km (WLTC). With a full tank and full charge, the combined CLTC range reaches 1,430 km (1,100 km WLTC). For charging, it supports 70 kW DC fast charging, replenishing the battery from 20% to 80% in 28 minutes. It also features 6.4 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging, ideal for powering outdoor gear and camping appliances. Fuel efficiency is rated at 1.0 L/100 km on the WLTC cycle, with a depleted-battery fuel consumption of 7.36–7.5 L/100 km. It runs on RON 95 petrol and features a 70-litre fuel tank.

Chassis and Handling

Ride and handling remain a core strength of the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P. Built on Volvo's SPA luxury chassis, it features an all-aluminium double-wishbone front suspension and an integral-link rear suspension paired with composite transverse leaf springs, delivering exceptional structural rigidity and sharp driving dynamics.

The higher-grade "Flying Fish" dual-chamber air suspension is a rare feature among hybrid SUVs in this segment. Paired with Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) electronic dampers, the system automatically tailors ride height and chassis stiffness to road conditions and driving modes. The air suspension offers 90 mm of height adjustability—raising ride height by 40 mm in Off-road mode for a maximum ground clearance of 220 mm, and lowering it by 50 mm in Loading mode to ease boot access. It seamlessly switches to single-chamber mode during hard cornering to rein in body roll, and dual-chamber mode over broken surfaces to absorb road shocks, striking an ideal balance between agility and plushness. The 100–0 km/h braking distance is clocked at around 34–36 metres, alongside impressive moose test performance. Unladen ground clearance stands at 190 mm and 180 mm when fully laden, with an approach angle of 21° and a departure angle of 20°.

Cabin and Equipment

The Lynk & Co 09 EM-P runs on the latest LYNK OS N smart cockpit system (Lynk OS N on select variants), powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor with RAM upgraded to 16 GB—improving boot time by 17%, system smoothness by 23%, and background app retention by 42%. The 15.4-inch central touchscreen features ultra-slim bezels and an anti-reflective coating for crystal-clear legibility even in direct sunlight. The previous climate control screen below the centre console has been replaced with physical air vents. Further enhancements, including Flyme Link integration, will be rolled out via over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Seating comfort is another standout highlight. The redesigned seats employ dual-density foam cushions that balance initial plushness with robust long-distance support. The front and second-row seats are equipped with heating, draft-free ventilation, and 8-point massage with three intensity settings. The 6-seater variant features individual second-row captain chairs with full power adjustment (fore/aft, recline, lumbar, and lateral sliding). With one-touch lateral adjustment, each seat can slide inwards by up to 62.5 mm or outwards by 40 mm, opening up a 257 mm central aisle for effortless access to the third row. The second-row seats recline up to 169° for rest stops, while the third-row backrests feature 12° of power adjustment to enhance passenger comfort. High-spec variants further add an integrated 4-way powered leg rest (280 mm length, adjustable up to 56°) for the front passenger seat, offering full-body relaxation. Boot capacity stands at 691 litres in standard guise, expanding to 1,522 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Safety and ADAS

On the passive safety front, the 09 EM-P shares its underlying SPA platform with the Volvo XC90, boasting extended front and rear crumple zones and an extensive ratio of hot-formed high-strength steel. An ultra-long aluminium front crash beam is complemented by hot-formed steel longitudinal members front and rear. All variants come standard with a rollover protection system comprising seven sensors; in the event of an impending rollover, it deploys the curtain airbags and alerts emergency services within 50 ms, followed by automated fuel cut-off and door unlocking within 200 ms. For battery safety, the pack has passed 107 safety tests and 23 cell-level assessments, overseen 24/7 by the BMS 3.0 battery management system.

In terms of driver assistance, the new SUV is equipped with Lynk & Co’s in-house developed Lynk Co-Pilot Navi suite. Powered by 24 high-performance perception sensors, it enables Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) to assist with automated lane changes, overtaking, and highway ramp navigation. It delivers Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities, covering Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centring Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Monitoring, and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). Higher trims also add automated parking assist, memory parking, and remote summon, with selected advanced functions available as options. The interior also adheres to a "Triple Zero" clean cabin philosophy—zero scrap cotton, zero bitumen, and zero harmful solvents—guaranteeing superior in-cabin air quality from the source.

Market Performance and Reception

The market journey of the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P has been a classic tale of high critical acclaim meeting modest showroom success. Following the debut of the facelifted model in early 2024, monthly sales briefly peaked at over 7,000 units, buoyed by its dual-chamber air suspension, SPA architecture, and potent hybrid setup. However, momentum soon tapered off, with monthly figures hovering between several hundred and around 4,000 units throughout 2025. In May 2026, the pricing strategy of the AWD Max 5-seater—with a retail price of RM275,800 and a promotional price of RM235,800—failed to deliver a substantial market boost, pulling in around 721 units in June. By March 2026, monthly registrations across the entire range stood at just 72 units, placing it 53rd in the mid-to-large SUV segment.

In terms of user feedback, the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P holds a respectable score of around 4.28 out of 5. Owners widely commend its solid mechanical foundations—highlighting the rock-solid SPA chassis tuning, the dual-chamber air suspension's ride compliance and roll suppression, the rapid 4.9-second century sprint, and the 3-speed DHT's strong highway passing power, alongside competitive NOA capabilities for the price point. Nonetheless, several pain points continue to hamper sales: cabin packaging lags behind some 4.8-metre SUVs, leaving the third row notably tight—largely because the multi-powertrain SPA platform encroaches on interior volume; the infotainment chip is still the older 8155 rather than the newer Snapdragon 8295, without the Flyme Auto operating system; the lack of standard LiDAR puts it at a perceived tech disadvantage against rivals like Li Auto and AITO; and ambiguous brand positioning—an awkward mismatch between Lynk & Co’s youthful, sporty heritage and a RM300,000 family cruiser, compounded by internal competition from newer stablemates like the Lynk & Co 900. As of May 2026, while the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P remains an engineered tour de force, it faces an uphill battle to turn its product prowess into commercial success.
