MINI Aceman

2026-10-12 11:40:00

Model Overview

The MINI Aceman is an all-new, fully electric compact crossover SUV from MINI, serving as the first five-seater crossover in the brand's lineup. Making its global debut on 24 April 2024, the Aceman is slotted between the MINI Cooper 3-door hatchback and the larger MINI Countryman SUV, effectively plugging a gap in the marque's product portfolio. Built by Spotlight Automotive—a joint venture between the BMW Group and Great Wall Motor—the model represents the JV's second production vehicle following the all-electric MINI Cooper.

As of June 2026, the 2025 all-electric MINI ACEMAN is offered in several trim levels, including the E Classic, SE Artist, and JCW JOHN COOPER WORKS. Domestic indicative pricing ranges from RM209,900 to RM279,900 (with limited-time promotional pricing between RM199,900 and RM264,900), while the range-topping JCW variant is priced at RM320,900. Positioned as an all-electric B-segment SUV, its key competitors in the domestic market include the likes of the smart #1 and Zeekr 007.

Design Language

Styling-wise, the MINI Aceman retains the marque's signature "wheels-at-the-corners" stance alongside its tidy, compact proportions. The front end is defined by a distinct octagonal blanked-off grille and angular hexagonal LED headlights, complemented by a matte-finished grille surround and a floating roof design. The side profile adopts a conventional four-door layout paired with a two-tone body finish. Around the back, the vertical LED tail lamps feature an intricate mesh pattern that subtly incorporates the iconic Union Jack graphic. Dimensions measure 4,076 mm in length, 1,754 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, riding on a 2,606 mm wheelbase. Aerodynamics have been meticulously honed, with semi-flush mechanical door handles further lowering drag. The wheel arches sport subtle chequered-flag motifs, whilst the sportier JCW variant benefits from bespoke front and rear styling treatments.

Inside, the Aceman embraces a "Charismatic Simplicity" design philosophy, stripping away unnecessary cabin clutter. Taking centre stage on the dashboard is an industry-first 240 mm circular OLED central touchscreen display, completely replacing the traditional instrument cluster in favour of a standard Head-Up Display (HUD) unit. The steering wheel features a distinctive textile strap accent, while the dashboard and door cards are generously lined with knitted recycled fabrics. MINI’s classic toggle switch bar has been thoughtfully retained. A panoramic glass roof floods the interior with natural light. The eco-conscious seats are trimmed in sustainable, recycled fabrics.

Powertrain & Performance

The MINI Aceman range is powered exclusively by a front-mounted single electric motor driving the front wheels (FWD). The entry-level Aceman E features a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 135 kW (184 PS) and 290 Nm of torque. The mid-spec Aceman SE gets an upgraded motor churning out 160 kW (218 PS) and 330 Nm. The flagship JCW variant tops the range with an output of 190 kW (258 PS) and 350 Nm of peak torque.

In terms of century sprint times, the Aceman E completes the 0-100 km/h dash in 8.5 seconds, the SE cuts it down to 7.3 seconds, and the rapid JCW achieves it in just 6.4 seconds. Top speeds are rated at 160 km/h for the E, 170 km/h for the SE, and 200 km/h for the JCW. Energy is supplied by a 38.5-40 kWh battery pack in the E variant, while the SE and JCW variants pack a larger 54.2 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) ternary lithium battery supplied by SVOLT. CLTC-rated ranges stand at 450 km for the E, 445 km for the SE, and approximately 406 km for the JCW. For DC fast charging, the SE supports up to 95 kW, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in around 30 minutes.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the MINI Aceman rides on front MacPherson struts and an independent multi-link rear suspension setup. The chassis setup preserves the brand's trademark "go-kart" driving dynamics. A low centre of gravity and well-balanced weight distribution significantly enhance cornering agility and stability. The standard-fit ARB (actuator-contiguous wheel slip limitation) traction control system delivers immediate slip response to ensure composed handling. The electric power steering (EPS) is both sharp and direct. A tight turning circle coupled with front and rear parking sensors ensures effortless low-speed manoeuvrability and parking. Automated Parking Assistant is standard across the board. The drivetrain is front-wheel drive, with the SE tipping the scales at a kerb weight of 1,730 kg. The suspension is tuned on the firmer, sportier side, delivering classic MINI driving thrills without compromising everyday ride comfort.

Cabin & Equipment

The MINI Aceman offers a practical five-seater (2+3) cabin arrangement. Boot capacity starts at 300 litres, expandable to 1,005 litres with the split-folding rear seats laid flat. Infotainment duties are handled by the standard 240 mm circular OLED display, running on the latest Android-based MINI Operating System 9, which supports intelligent voice control and customisable "MINI Experience Modes". Higher variants gain a windscreen-projected HUD unit. Audiophiles can specify a premium Harman Kardon sound system on selected mid-to-high trims. Comfort and convenience amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and customisable ambient lighting. Upholstery is crafted from recycled woven fabric. NVH levels have also been upgraded with acoustic laminated glass and HiSpring floor damping, cutting cabin noise by 2 dB.

Safety & Driver Assistance

Safety remains a key selling point for the MINI Aceman, having secured the maximum five-star safety rating in the rigorous 2025 Euro NCAP crash tests. The cabin is protected by nine airbags as standard, including a front-centre far-side airbag. The bodyshell achieves a high torsional rigidity of 35,700 Nm/deg. The high-voltage battery pack is encased in dedicated ultra-high-strength steel with built-in crumple zones for enhanced side-impact protection.

On the active safety front, the vehicle comes standard with full-speed Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB, operational up to 120 km/h), Lane Departure Warning with active steering intervention, and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). Higher trims add Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities, including Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC with Stop & Go), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and a 360-degree surround-view camera system. A Safe Exit Warning feature is also included to alert occupants of approaching traffic or cyclists before opening the doors.

Market Performance & Reception

The MINI Aceman has experienced contrasting fortunes between global and Chinese markets. Globally, the crossover posted healthy figures with 31,625 units delivered in 2025. However, sales in China followed a "boom-and-bust" trajectory—peaking at 3,156 units in June 2025 before tumbling to just 112 units by September, wrapping up the full year of 2025 with 26,499 cumulative units. Moving into 2026, monthly demand shrank further to just 71 units. Market observers attribute this domestic slowdown to premium brand positioning, ambitious pricing, feature parity against local rivals, and fierce price wars from Chinese new-energy vehicle (NEV) competitors. In its segment, the Aceman goes head-to-head with rivals such as the smart #1 and Zeekr 007. Nevertheless, as MINI's second locally produced electric vehicle, the Aceman successfully bridges the gap between unmistakable MINI heritage and crossover versatility, striking a compelling balance between individual flair and daily usability.
