Model Overview

The Mitsubishi Xforce is a compact crossover SUV developed by Mitsubishi Motors specifically for Southeast Asian markets, making its global debut in Indonesia in August 2023. Regarded as the spiritual successor to the Mitsubishi ASX, it sits between the B-segment and C-segment, embracing a "rugged urban SUV" design concept that blends rugged SUV styling with urban commuting practicality. In Taiwan, the Xforce was officially launched as a locally assembled (CKD) model by China Motor Corporation (CMC) in 2026, offered in three variants—Joy, Cool, and Wild—priced between RM799,000 and RM842,000 (equivalent to approximately RM180,000 to RM190,000). Its primary rivals include compact crossovers such as the Toyota Corolla Cross, Yaris Cross, Honda HR-V, and Nissan Kicks. In Malaysia, the Xforce climbed to third place on the B-segment SUV sales charts by April 2026.

Design Language

The Xforce adopts Mitsubishi's latest Dynamic Shield family design language, delivering a bold and muscular stance. The front fascia features substantial chrome trims flanking distinctively styled headlamp clusters, paired with a large trapezoidal blacked-out grille and signature T-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) for an unmistakable road presence. Distinct bonnet character lines combined with pronounced wheel arches accentuate its muscular build and off-road demeanor. Along the sides, it sports a floating roof design, while the rear echoes the front with matching T-shaped LED taillights. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,390 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,660 mm tall, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance stands at an impressive 222 mm, backed by an approach angle of 21° and a departure angle of 30.5°—leading among urban crossovers in its class.

Inside, the cabin features a tech-focused dual-screen layout, equipped with a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster (Cool variant upwards) and a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The range-topping variant gets an 8-speaker Yamaha Premium Sound System, specially tuned for cabin acoustics. The seats are upholstered in leather, while the rear bench offers 8-step recline adjustment alongside 40:20:40 split-folding functionality.

Powertrain & Performance

Powering the Xforce lineup is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated inline-four engine (engine code 4A91), producing 105 PS (approx. 77 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The powerplant is mated to a CVT automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Official fuel economy is rated at 17.0 km/L (approx. 5.9 L/100km), earning a Level 2 energy efficiency rating. Top speed is rated at 175 km/h. Overseas markets have also introduced the Xforce HEV hybrid variant, pairing a 1.6-litre engine with an electric motor to achieve an NEDC-rated fuel consumption of 24.4 km/L, though it remains exclusive to right-hand drive (RHD) markets for now.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the Xforce rides on a front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension setup. Drawing from Mitsubishi's rally heritage, the chassis is equipped as standard with Active Yaw Control (AYC), which applies subtle braking force to the inner front wheel to sharpen cornering stability. Drivers can toggle between four drive modes: Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud. Combined with 222 mm of ground clearance and generous approach/departure angles, it offers superior rough-road capability over standard urban crossovers. A tight 5.2-metre turning radius ensures effortless manoeuvrability in city traffic.

Cabin & Practicality

The Xforce features a 5-seater layout with generous rear knee room and over 20 storage compartments scattered across the cabin. Boot capacity ranges from 410 to 429 litres in standard layout, which can be further expanded by folding the rear seats down. In terms of comfort and convenience, the Cool variant and above come equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, a Nanoe X air purification system, a wireless smartphone charger, a hands-free powered tailgate with kick sensor, and 64-colour ambient lighting. An Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold comes standard across the entire range.

Safety & Driver Assistance

The Xforce comes standard across all variants with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite (a market-exclusive standard offering in Taiwan, as overseas variants mostly lack lane centering). The ADAS package includes: Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM with pedestrian detection), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) with Intelligent Speed Assist, and Leading Car Departure Notification (LCDN). Higher variants add Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Auto High Beam (AHB). For passive safety, 6 airbags are fitted across the board, earning the SUV a full 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Market Reception & Verdict

The Xforce has delivered strong sales momentum across Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, order books exceeded 1,000 units within a week of opening, achieving 1,035 units delivered in April 2026 to take third spot in the B-segment SUV category. In Taiwan, it marks a highly anticipated new-generation passenger car launch for CMC Mitsubishi, gaining widespread attention for its rugged styling, tech-laden cabin, and complete Level 2 ADAS suite. A survey by U-CAR revealed that 35% of respondents found its exterior styling most appealing, while 36% felt that the absence of a hybrid powertrain is its biggest shortcoming. Compared to class rivals, the Xforce holds clear advantages in dimensions, ground clearance, and cabin tech (such as the 12.3-inch central touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital meter), though its 105 PS output sits in the middle of the pack. CMC has stated that it will evaluate introducing the Xforce HEV hybrid variant locally based on market reception.
