Brand Overview

ONVO is the second car brand under NIO, officially launched on May 15, 2024. The brand name "ONVO" carries the meaning of "family joy and wise household management." The English name ONVO originates from "On Voyage" (happy journey), expressing the brand concept that "every road travelled with family is ONVO." The brand is positioned in the family vehicle market, with the core mission of serving a wider user group and redefining new standards for family intelligent electric vehicles.

ONVO brand planning began in 2020 and was formally established in 2021. NIO Founder, Chairman, and CEO Li Bin stated that, based on a deep understanding of automotive industry dynamics and a forward‑looking view of the intelligent electric vehicle market, NIO had been developing a multi‑brand strategy since its founding in 2014. The launch of ONVO gives NIO the opportunity to serve a broader family user base, marking a key milestone in the execution of its multi‑brand strategy.

The brand's founding president was Ai Tiecheng, formerly Vice President of Marketing at Shanghai Disney Resort and General Manager of WeWork Greater China. In April 2025, Shen Fei, head of NIO's Energy System, took over as ONVO brand president, signalling a new phase of energy system empowerment. ONVO's headquarters are in Shanghai.

Development History

ONVO's history can be divided into four stages: planning and launch, brand debut, first model delivery, and dual‑model drive.

Planning and Brand Debut (September 2020–2024). ONVO brand planning began in 2020, and the brand was formally established in 2021, entering preliminary R&D. Over the next three years, ONVO conducted deep development around the NIO NT3.0 technology platform, completing integration of the full‑stack 900V high‑voltage architecture and pure‑vision intelligent driving solution. On May 15, 2024, ONVO held a brand launch event in Shanghai, where the first model, the L60, made its debut. The event was themed "Chatting about family vehicle matters," with Li Bin and Ai Tiecheng jointly interpreting the brand positioning and product design concepts.

L60 Delivery and Market Launch (September 2024–July 2025). On September 19, 2024, the ONVO L60 officially went on sale, starting at 206,900 RMB, with 60 kWh and 85 kWh battery pack options. Under the BaaS battery leasing programme, the purchase threshold dropped to 149,900 RMB. On September 28, the L60 began nationwide customer deliveries. Delivery volumes climbed month by month in the first year—breaking 10,000 units in November 2024, 30,000 in February 2025, and 50,000 in June. In the first half of the year, the L60 held a firm position in the top three of the pure electric SUV market in the 200,000‑300,000 RMB price range. During this phase, ONVO centred on the single L60 model, establishing its product reputation in the family pure electric SUV segment.

L90 Delivery and Dual‑Model Drive (August 2025–End of 2025). In July 2025, ONVO's second model, the L90, was officially launched, with a pre‑sale price starting from 279,900 RMB. On August 1, the L90 began nationwide deliveries. Built on the NT3.0 platform, it adopts a 6‑seat/7‑seat layout and introduces 900V high‑voltage architecture and 3‑minute rapid swapping to the mainstream price range for the first time. Market response to the L90 was enthusiastic: within two months of launch, cumulative deliveries reached 21,626 units, setting the fastest delivery record for a pure electric large SUV. In the second half of the year, the dual‑model drive propelled rapid brand growth. In 2025, ONVO's cumulative full‑year deliveries reached 107,808 units, breaking the 100,000‑unit milestone for the first time, with an average transaction price exceeding 250,000 RMB.

Sales Volatility and Adjustment (2026–Present). From late 2025 to early 2026, ONVO's monthly sales fell from the high level of over 10,000 units to the range of several thousand. Deliveries in January 2026 were 3,481 units, and February 2,981—declining for two consecutive months. However, driven by stabilising market sentiment and continued product validation, deliveries rebounded sharply in March to 6,877 units, a 130.7% month‑over‑month increase. Among these, L60 deliveries were 3,517 units (+111.4% MoM), and L90 deliveries 3,360 units (+155.1% MoM). Brand cumulative deliveries broke 140,000 units. In March 2026, ONVO announced the restart of R&D for 200,000 RMB‑class sedan and SUV models, with plans to enrich its product matrix. In the same month, NIO announced that in 2026, the three brands—NIO, ONVO, and firefly—would jointly use SKY stores to penetrate lower‑tier markets, covering more prefecture‑level cities.

Core Technology

ONVO's technology system fully inherits NIO's ten years of full‑stack technology accumulation, centred on the NT3.0 platform, full‑domain 900V high‑voltage architecture, pure‑vision intelligent driving solution, and the battery‑swapping energy ecosystem.

NT3.0 Platform Architecture. All ONVO models are developed on NIO's third‑generation smart electric vehicle technology platform, NT3.0. This platform integrates NIO's full‑stack self‑developed electrical and electronic architecture, chassis system, and three‑electric technologies, with high flexibility and scalability. Compared to NIO's second‑generation platform (NT2), NT3.0 delivers comprehensive leadership in intelligence, power performance, and energy consumption management, enabling both the L60 and L90 to offer premium product capability in the mainstream price range.

Full‑Domain 900V High‑Voltage Architecture. All ONVO models come standard with NIO's self‑developed full‑domain 900V high‑voltage architecture, covering battery, motor, wiring, air conditioning, DC‑DC, onboard charger, and other core components, with a system rated voltage of up to 925V. This high‑voltage architecture brings lower charging and discharging losses and higher system efficiency—the ONVO L60 2WD version achieves energy consumption of just 12.1 kWh per 100 km, while the L90 maintains industry‑leading energy consumption in the large SUV segment. The 900V platform also supports 25‑minute fast charging from 10% to 80%.

Pure‑Vision Intelligent Driving Solution. ONVO adopts a pure‑vision intelligent driving solution, eliminating LiDAR to significantly reduce hardware costs for the mainstream price range. The L60 comes standard with 30 high‑performance sensors, including one 4D imaging millimetre‑wave radar, seven 8‑megapixel cameras, and four Starlight 360‑degree cameras. The intelligent driving chip is the NVIDIA Orin‑X (254 TOPS), supporting full‑scenario NOA Pilot Assist across 726 cities nationwide. The L90 comes standard with 45 active safety features. The 2026 L90 further upgrades to NIO's self‑developed 5nm automotive‑grade Shenji NX9031 chip, with a significant leap in computing power and AI inference capability, and debuts the NIO World Model and SkyOS·Tianxu full‑domain operating system.

Battery and Swapping Technology. All ONVO models are compatible with NIO's third‑generation battery swap stations, supporting 3‑minute rapid swapping. As of December 5, 2025, 2,252 battery swap stations nationwide support ONVO swapping services, including 657 highway stations. Cumulative swap operations exceeded 93.63 million. In December 2025, ONVO launched a "nationwide battery doubling plan," adding over 8,000 new battery packs to the existing network, completed by mid‑January 2026, increasing ONVO battery availability at national stations to more than twice the original scale. On battery technology, the ONVO L60 is equipped with 60 kWh and 85 kWh LFP batteries, with an optional 150 kWh ultra‑large capacity battery pack for over 1,000 km of range; the L90 comes standard with an 85 kWh battery pack, offered in LFP and NMC options.

SkyOS·Tianxu Full‑Domain Intelligent System. Starting with the 2026 L90, ONVO models are equipped with NIO's self‑developed SkyOS·Tianxu full‑domain operating system. This full‑stack self‑developed central computing platform achieves deep integration across body, intelligent driving, cockpit, and other domains. Together with the Shenji NX9031 chip, SkyOS supports the World Model's long‑term sequential reasoning capability, delivering powerful computing power for complex road decision‑making, multi‑modal perception fusion, and multi‑domain collaborative control.

Global Footprint

ONVO has a clear globalisation export plan, with the European market as its first destination. NIO has stated that ONVO exports to Europe will officially begin when the brand reaches monthly production of 30,000 units, with the UK chosen as the first stop—largely because the UK is not part of the EU and will not levy high tariffs on imported Chinese EVs. NIO's existing European presence provides ONVO with a preliminary market foundation; NIO currently sells its own brand EVs in five European countries: Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden.

NIO Founder Li Bin has said that ONVO is not only suited to Chinese user needs but also to global users: "Products that sell well in China definitely have enough strength to serve global users. ONVO has an export plan. The first step is to serve Chinese users first." NIO is pushing ONVO into more overseas markets through a flexible expansion strategy and potential local production options.

Future Outlook

On the product planning front, in March 2026 ONVO restarted R&D for two 200,000 RMB‑class new models—one sedan and one SUV—accelerating the enrichment of its product matrix. At the same time, the 2026 ONVO L90 launched in April 2026 with upgrades including NIO's self‑developed Shenji NX9031 chip and the SkyOS·Tianxu system, bringing NIO flagship‑level intelligent technology to the 300,000 RMB market for the first time and reshaping value standards for family large pure electric SUVs.

On the sales and service front, in 2026 the three NIO brands—NIO, ONVO, and firefly—will jointly use SKY stores to focus on lower‑tier markets, improving penetration in tier‑3 and tier‑4 cities and forming efficient coverage for more prefecture‑level cities. Energy infrastructure continues to advance: the battery‑doubling plan launched at the end of 2025 was completed in January 2026, increasing ONVO battery availability at the national swap network to more than twice the original scale to support growing user demand.

On the profit and scale front, ONVO's strategic significance to NIO is threefold: first, expanding the user base to dilute high fixed‑cost technology investments (such as swap station construction and R&D); second, improving NIO's overall profit structure by reducing sole reliance on high‑margin premium models; and third, validating that NIO's full‑stack technology can achieve scaled application across a wider price range.

ONVO's mission is to serve family users by delivering NIO core technology at scale and reduced cost, creating family intelligent EVs that combine tech‑luxury feel with mainstream affordability. As a key engine of NIO's multi‑brand strategy, ONVO is leveraging "technology equity" as a fulcrum—moving from China's mainstream family market to the global stage, and accelerating NIO's overall push toward a 10‑million‑user scale.
