SAIC MAXUS EV80

2026-10-02 22:40:02

The SAIC MAXUS EV80 is one of the trailblazers in the electrification of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in China. Built on the proven V80 chassis architecture as an all-electric van, the EV80 has earned a solid reputation worldwide—especially across European, Australian, and domestic urban delivery sectors—since its debut in 2014. It serves as a pivotal strategic cornerstone in SAIC MAXUS's transition from internal combustion engines to "new energy and intelligent" commercial vehicles.

Vehicle Overview

Positioned as a medium-to-large all-electric LCV, the EV80 is a versatile workhorse across logistics, urban courier distribution, employee shuttles, and special-purpose vehicle segments. Its key hallmarks are "Pure Electric Logistics Leader" and "Global Operational Benchmark". Core selling points include operational efficiency that surpasses conventional ICE vehicles, exceptional space utilisation (cargo volume exceeding 10.2 cubic metres), and high-standard battery safety and electric drive reliability certified under stringent global regulations. Featuring a zero-emission powertrain, the EV80 is designed to help fleet operators comply with increasingly strict urban environmental policies while significantly lowering total lifecycle running costs.

Development History

Inception and Pioneering (2014–2018): Officially introduced in 2014, the EV80 was one of the very few pure electric commercial vans from a Chinese brand at the time capable of meeting stringent European homologation standards. During its early phase, it made swift inroads into European markets such as the UK and Ireland, playing an instrumental role in establishing MAXUS’s overseas reputation for high-quality electric commercial vehicles.

Continuous Evolution (2019–2023): Benefiting from advancements in battery energy density, the EV80 underwent multiple facelifts that substantially boosted its driving range. MAXUS retained its signature versatile cargo layout while introducing an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) and DC fast-charging technology, effectively reducing charging downtime and range anxiety for commercial users.

Next-Generation Line-up (2024 to Present): Heading into 2026, MAXUS launched the Xintu EV80 PRO. While retaining the model's signature expansive interior, the new-generation iteration delivers comprehensive efficiency upgrades across the electric motor, battery, and electronic control systems, alongside smarter driver assistance features to further enhance its value in smart logistics.

Market Performance

The EV80 enjoys high industry recognition in the logistics sector, particularly across express delivery, on-demand dispatch, and cold-chain transport. Overseas, the EV80 has long served within the fleet networks of European logistics giants (such as the UK postal service and courier firms), standing out as one of the few Chinese electric commercial vehicles competing head-on with top-tier international LCV marques. In its domestic market, sales have consistently placed it at the forefront of its segment as the preferred choice for fleets aiming to lower operating expenses and boost efficiency, whilst commanding a strong market presence in bespoke conversions such as ambulances.

Core Technologies

High-Efficiency Electric Drive System: The latest model is powered by a high-efficiency electric motor delivering a peak output of 120 kW and 280 Nm of torque, ensuring smooth and responsive pull-away performance even under full load, paired with efficient regenerative braking capabilities.

Versatile Cargo Space: Leveraging the classic V80 platform, the EV80 is available in multiple wheelbase and roof height configurations, offering a cavernous load volume of up to over 10.2 cubic metres. An ultra-wide side sliding door and low floor height ensure swift and convenient cargo loading and unloading.

High-Standard EV Safety: Powered by a high-energy-density battery pack with IP67 dust and water resistance, the system incorporates advanced thermal management to maintain battery stability and long service life across diverse climate conditions.

Smart Driver Assistance: Equipped with active driver aids including Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Monitoring, along with an upgraded telematics connectivity system that supports real-time mobile fleet tracking, enabling fleet managers to streamline digital operations.

Future Plans

SAIC MAXUS has set clear R&D priorities for the EV80 series: further enhancing payload capacity through lightweight materials and engineering automated logistics solutions compatible with Level 4 autonomous driving assistance. Moving forward, the EV80 will evolve beyond a standard transport vehicle to function as a smart endpoint within an intelligent logistics ecosystem—seamlessly integrating with logistics networks for routine route optimisation and freight dispatching, thereby reinforcing its leadership in the global electric LCV arena.
