Model Overview

The SAIC Maxus G10 is the maiden full-size MPV introduced by SAIC Maxus Automotive Co., Ltd. Making its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2014, it was the brand's first production model following its inception, bearing the strategic mandate of penetrating the domestic dual-purpose commercial and passenger MPV segment. Over a decade since its market debut, the G10 line-up has evolved into two primary product ranges—the standard G10 and the G10 MAX—offering petrol, diesel, and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) powertrain options. As of August 2024, cumulative historical sales of the G10 series have crossed the 180,000-unit milestone.

On 30 August 2024, the all-new G10 series officially went on sale at the Chengdu Motor Show, sporting a dual-variant product strategy. The standard G10 carries an indicative retail price ranging between RM108,000 and RM149,800, whereas the G10 MAX is positioned from RM165,800 to RM209,800. Offering flexible 7-seater, 8-seater, and 9-seater seating configurations, the line-up focuses on superior value-for-money and multi-purpose practicality, catering to diverse commercial transfer, tourist transport, and private family use cases.

Design Language

The all-new G10 range embraces the marque's latest corporate design identity. Up front, the G10 MAX sports an expansive borderless parametric matrix grille finished with staggered chrome trim accents, flanked by sharp all-LED headlamp assemblies, whilst the lower bumper is accentuated by a semi-enclosing chrome garnish to deliver an imposing and upmarket visual presence. Down the flanks, a clean and structured shoulder line is complemented by chrome mouldings along the upper and lower window frames as well as the side sills; twin powered sliding doors are fitted to facilitate effortless cabin access. At the rear, a full-width chrome trim strip ties in with the smoked split-type LED tail lamps, while a subtle roof-edge spoiler lends a touch of dynamism. In comparison, the standard G10 adopts a more restrained and utilitarian aesthetic styled around essential chrome accents.

Dimension-wise, the G10 MAX measures 5,198 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,928 mm in height, whereas the entry-level variant extends slightly to 5,218 mm in overall length. Both share a 3,198 mm wheelbase, leading the full-size MPV segment. Inside, the cabin is available in Pure Black and Cognac Brown colour themes. The G10 MAX features a twin 12.3-inch dual-screen setup, accompanied by a column-mounted electronic gear selector and a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel. The dashboard is upholstered in leather, while the full-width air-conditioning vents with chrome garnishing visually broaden the cockpit.

Powertrain and Performance

The G10 line-up is available with three engine choices: a 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol, a 2.0T turbocharged petrol, and a 2.0T turbocharged diesel. The 2.0L naturally aspirated mill produces 106 kW (144 PS) and 200 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 2.0T petrol engine (coded 20L4E) puts out 192 kW (261 PS) and 410 Nm, mated to a ZF 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. The 2.0T diesel unit generates 120 kW (163 PS) and 375 Nm, likewise paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Under WLTC test cycles, combined fuel consumption is rated at approximately 8.7 L/100km for the 2.0T petrol variant and 7.8 L/100km for the 2.0T diesel. Additionally, a 2.4L CNG Manual Premium Touring Edition was introduced in January 2025 featuring a compressed natural gas fuel system, broadening alternative fuel choices. The entire model range adopts a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the G10 series provides variant-specific rear suspension options. Flagship trims are fitted with front MacPherson struts paired with a rear five-link independent suspension, capable of supporting a 3-tonne gross vehicle weight (GVW) while balancing ride comfort with load-carrying capabilities. Entry-level variants feature either rear leaf springs or a five-link rigid axle non-independent setup, geared toward robust commercial payload hauling. The chassis was tuned in collaboration with the Lotus engineering team in the UK to balance high-speed stability and all-road composure. Steering is assisted by either hydraulic or electric power steering depending on trim grades; braking duties are handled by ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the rear, with higher-tier models gaining an Electric Parking Brake (EPB).

Cabin and Equipment

Generous interior volume remains the core selling point of the G10 series. The expansive 3,198 mm wheelbase yields class-leading cabin legroom, measuring 1,150 mm for the front row, 1,295 mm for the second row, and 900 mm for the third row, ensuring relaxed accommodations for both second- and third-row occupants. The G10 MAX gets second-row executive captain seats complete with multi-directional electric adjustment, heating, and ventilation functions, flanked by a premium centre armrest console and tri-zone automatic climate control. On the infotainment front, the G10 MAX incorporates a twin 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and central touchscreen display with built-in online navigation, smartphone integration, and voice control. A 50W wireless smartphone charging pad is integrated into the centre console, alongside multiple USB charging ports throughout the cabin. Luggage capacity stands at a generous 950 litres in standard configuration, expandable up to 2,500 litres with the 50:50 split-folding third-row seats folded flat, swallowing up to seven 28-inch luggage bags with ease.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Across the safety department, all G10 variants come factory-fitted with active safety features including the Bosch ESP 9.3 electronic stability programme, Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), Roll Movement Intervention (RMI), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Higher-spec models feature a 360-degree surround-view camera system paired with front and rear parking sensors to aid tight manoeuvres and low-speed navigation. On the passive safety front, high-strength steel is extensively utilised across critical crash structures and reinforced load-bearing members to comply with C-NCAP crash safety benchmarks. ISOFIX child seat anchor points are standard across both the second and third rows. For advanced driver aids, the top-tier G10 MAX is equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW), mitigating driver fatigue on long-distance hauls.

Market Performance and Reception

Since its market launch in 2014, the G10 has built a commanding footprint in the corporate transfer, tourism fleet, and family MPV segments thanks to its expansive cabin, versatile seating arrangements, and strong value proposition, recording cumulative historical sales of roughly 180,000 units by 2024. In terms of commercial volume, the G10 series registered roughly 2,997 units in 2025, with October deliveries reaching 550 units to rank sixth among Chinese domestic brand MPVs. In the car rental and e-hailing fleet sectors, the G10's reputation for mechanical dependability and cavernous passenger-and-luggage capacity has sustained steady fleet and B2B demand, with regional dealers openly highlighting delivery milestones exceeding 10,000 units.

Owner reviews consistently praise the G10's standout interior dimensions, robust chassis engineering, and refined powertrain delivery. The 3,198 mm wheelbase and flexible 7-to-9-seater configurations, paired with up to 2,500 litres of cargo capacity, make it an exceptional workhorse for large family road trips and logistics duties. On the flip side, common criticisms centre on modest noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels with audible wind and road noise at highway speeds, a utilitarian cabin finish on base models characterised by hard plastics, and basic infotainment features on lower trims, leaving a noticeable tech gap against similarly priced competitors like the Trumpchi M8 and Refine L6 in terms of digital cockpit features and advanced ADAS suites.

As SAIC Maxus's pioneer model, the G10 has anchored a reputable standing in the full-size MPV market over the past decade through its winning formula of "generous space, versatility, and accessible pricing", serving widely across airport transfer fleets, chartered tour services, staff transport, and private family duties. Following its 2024 comprehensive redesign, the two-pronged G10 and G10 MAX model line-up spans an attractive price bracket of RM108,000 to RM209,800, seamlessly addressing needs from everyday commercial workhorses to executive business movers while cementing the brand's foothold in the dual-purpose MPV segment.
